Re: The Freshest Show on Turf: A Coaching Dynasty (NCAA 06)
The 'Dores have had a great start to the season with a high powered offense boosting them to a 4-0 record. NFL hopeful Jay Cutler (89 OVR, impact player) starts at quarterback and has thrown for 962 yards and 7 touchdowns with just 1 interception. But it's been their run game, featuring halfback Jeff Jennings (82 OVR, impact player), that has been doing most of the the work. They are missing their best receiver in Erik Davis (88 OVR), who is unfortunately out for the season with a broken vertebrae.

Re: The Freshest Show on Turf: A Coaching Dynasty (NCAA 06)
The Junior halfback has been the biggest playmaker on the offense and is the best skill position player on the team. He's put together 527 yards of total offense and 3 touchdowns through the first three games.
Here's what Freshwater had to say about the situation. "It's obvious how important this is. Gross has become our go-to-guy on offense. What I'm not a fan of is that we're relying on the Murfreesboro media here and not hard evidence. How do we know J.D. Brookhart hasn't been paying them to make false accusations? But if the administration and NCAA are going to be breathing down my neck about it, he’ll have to miss some time as this situation unfolds."
Gross will be suspended for 6 games, while Freshwater will undergo his own investigation of the Murfreesboro media.
Backup Terry Jackson (SO RS, 78 OVR) is just as quick as the impact starter (90 SPD), but not as tough of a runner (65 STR, 74 BTK versus 72 STR, 84 BTK). He'll get his first start of the season this week against Vanderbilt.
Re: The Freshest Show on Turf: A Coaching Dynasty (NCAA 06)
Can't say I've ever seen that erroneous of impact player switch - I've had some weird ones in the older-gen NCAAs, but nothing that bad. Brutal luck with Gross getting suspended too, about offsets that nice win against Akron. Hopefully the Blue Raider D can make some plays on Jay Cutler and pull out another one!

Commodores Batten Down the Hatches Against Freshwater's Aerial Assault 2005, Week 6
This game looked like it was going to be a shootout. Vanderbilt kicked off the scoring on their first drive of the game with a 7 yard pass from Jay Cutler to freshman Earl Bennett.
Clint Marks and the Middle Tennessee offense responded with a great drive of their own, moving into scoring range. There Vanderbilt linebacker Kevin Joyce made the play of the game. He came on an edge blitz and was free to the quarterback, Marks saw it coming and was able to release a pass before the hit. Joyce slowed up however and got his hands up to bat the ball in the air, right in Marks face. The ball went straight up in the air, and right back down to the defender who sprinted past Marks and all the way the other way for the score. "That was an incredible play. The best we've seen defensively against us so far. Can't blame Marks for that one." -said Freshwater.
The teams would trade off touchdowns to end the first quarter with 28 total points scored, Vandy leading by 14.
Marks threw his second touchdown on a short slant to Cleonnard Saintil with 37 seconds before half. They shouldn't have left Cutler with that much time. Corner Roy Polite, filling in for Bradley Robinson who was ruled out with a shoulder injury, was beat in coverage by freshman George Smith. Smith cut the ball upfield and Reggie Doucet, newly minted impact player and starter at safety, took a terrible angle from his deep zone. Smith was able to outrun the rest of the secondary for a 65 yard score. Vandy only needed 9 seconds to regain their two score lead.
The second half was more of a defensive battle. The Commodores resorted to Jeff Jennings and the run game to drain the clock. The Raider defense, now very familiar with run heavy offenses, stopped it relatively well. On the other side, the Vandy defense was more than content to play a bend-don't-break style. They dropped into zones almost every play, and surrendered easy yardage underneath. Clint Marks dumped passes off to receivers Chris Henry and Cleannord Saintil often, and they both finished the game with 12 receptions. But the method worked, as Marks grew frustrated with taking the short gains over and over. He looked deep for Jerrin Holt, but Vanderbilt safety Reshard Langford was there in coverage to make a play on the ball and turn it over.
With Eugene Gross serving his recent suspension, it was third string Demarco McNair who made the most of the new opportunity. McNair broke free on a 19 yard rush, to set himself up with a 1 yard touchdown just a play later. Middle Tennessee brought the game back within one possession.
Both teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter. Clint Marks and the offense had a chance to tie the game. With 1:32 on the clock and 78 yards to go, Marks began moving down the field. Freshwater took the teams final timeout when Chris Henry was brought down in bounds just past midfield with now 53 seconds remaining. Marks threw a short pass to Pierre Ingram who got out of bounds, then two incompletions to set up a 4th and 8. Vanderbilt came out in man-coverage, exactly what Freshwater was hoping to see. Jerrin Holt, a usual mismatch, ran a deep crosser and Marks shot the ball his way. Vandy safety Kelechi Ohanaja made a great play on the ball, extending his left arm to bat it down and win the game.
"It was exactly what we we're hoping to see. Jerrin ran a good route and got some seperation, Marks made a decent throw, it was just an even better play by the defender" said Freshwater about the final stop.
Cutler would kneel the ball out as he and the Commodores improve their record to an impressive 5-0. Middle Tennessee loses their third of the season, but saw a lot of positives in the defeat. "We played an NFL caliber quarterback here and were in this game. They made two amazing defensive plays that swung it in their favor" said Freshwater post-game.
The Raiders will have a week off before heading to Boca Raton to take on the Florida Atlantic Owls.

Yeah I don't mind it, but it was strange to see. I'd honestly rather have the extra impact player on defense to maybe force some more turnovers, but Doucet didn't play great against Vandy so it's not looking positive yet. And yeah, the Gross suspension is brutal. He's such a weapon on the ground and in the pass game out of the backfield with that impact role. I could always count on him to pick up good yardage when he gets in-the-zone. The game recommended suspension for the season, but I need him on the field. He'll be back for the final two games. Hopefully that's enough to get the NCAA interest down. It might be a tough stretch without him.
Re: The Freshest Show on Turf: A Coaching Dynasty (NCAA 06)
Who's Hot
Bowling Green.
The Falcons have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Omar Jacobs. They jump to a 4-0 start and move into the top 25.
Who's Not
Oklahoma.
The #3 Sooners dropped their first game of the year in a 23-17 loss against a 1-2 Kansas State. The next week they fall to Texas in the Red River Rivalry.
Michigan.
The #4 Wolverines also suffer back to back losses. First to rival Michigan State, and then to a dangerous Minnesota team led by halfback Laurence Maroney.
Re: The Freshest Show on Turf: A Coaching Dynasty (NCAA 06)
This game is almost a must win scenario for Freshwater and the Raiders, who have been off to a slow start and look to get back on track as conference play ramps up. FAU is among the worst teams in the nation both offensively and defensively as they're having a nightmare season. They rank last in points per game with 11.9, and are 109th in total defense. Starting quarterback and impact player Danny Embick will be out with a broken hand and the Raiders match up well against the Owls across the board.
