Most likely at least through the end of his current contract. It will get pretty dicey, with the cap hit going from $19.8 million this season all the way to $47.7 million in 2022. I will probably look at drafting a prospect to develop within the next couple seasons though.

LIONS BEAT CHARGERS 27-10
September 15, 2019
What went right
Have to start with the defense. Surprisingly, the Lions held the Chargers to -2 yards rushing. Melvin Gordon had just 2 yards on 8 carries. The Chargers were forced to all but abandon the run game. We knew the Lions defensive line was good. But didn't think it could be THIS good.
Detroit was pretty good against the pass, too. Phillip Rivers threw for 249 yards, but only one TD, and he was picked off once. But, maybe the biggest stat.....the Lions held the Chargers to just one third down conversion in eight attempts.
The offense was pretty efficient too. Matthew Stafford threw for 308 yards, and 3 TD, going 23/34. The running game was pretty good, gaining 108 yards. Kerryon Johnson missed his second strait 100 yard game by just 7 yards, finishing with 93 yards on 20 carries.
T.J. Hockenson looks every bit like the stud the Lions thought he was when they drafted him 8th overall. He had a pair of touchdown catches in goal line situations. He is proving to be almost unguardable in those situations.
WHAT WENT WRONG
For the second straight game, not much. The Lions pretty much dominated the Chargers up and down the field. Maybe one area of concern is the running game in goal line situations. Kerryon Johnson was stuffed twice at the goal line, and C.J. Anderson was also stopped on another drive. But both those drives ended with a T.J. Hockenson TD catch. Still, the lack of a rushing TD in the first couple games is a bit of a concern.
Pass Protection is a bit of a concern still. Especially the right side of the line. Rick Wagner allowed 4 sacks (all to Joey Bosa.) and the Lions have allowed seven sacks in two games.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lions travel to the City of Brotherly Love, to face the 2-0 Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are coming off of a 20-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Eagles scored 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to come from behind. Carson Wentz is off to a great start (510 yards, 5 TD, 125.0 QBR.) The Eagles running game has struggled, though, averaging under 3.5 yards per carry. But the Eagles defense is tough. They rank 7th overall in the NFL after two games, second against the run.

Adds a bit of pressure in Detroit to keep things going, but you have a solid platform to take the North all the way.
Good luck
Actually up to 4-0 now. Will have an update shortly, most likely later today. I finished a game on Saturday, right before I went on vacation, so haven't had a chance to update it yet.
Re: Can The Lions Finally Roar?---A Detroit Lions Franchise
LIONS SHUT OUT PACKERS 40-0
WHAT WENT RIGHT
In a word, EVERYTHING. Well, almost everything. Offense, defense, special teams, it was all outstanding Monday Night. The Lions held Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to just 104 yards of offense. They forced 3 turnovers, including 2 interceptions. The pass rush, which had been missing the last couple weeks, generated 6 sacks. The running game was good again, gaining 112 yards. This is a run game that doesn't have to be great for the Lions to win games, It just has to be good enough. And, thus far this season, it has been.
Matthew Stafford had another really good game, throwing for 351 yards and 3 TDs. He did throw his first pick of the season, but that really wasn't on him, as the defender made a great read. He made a really great throw on a 34 yard touchdown to Kenny Golladay.
Speaking of Golladay, he FINALLY had that breakout game that he was looking for, catching 8 passes for 139 yards and a couple touchdowns. T.J. Hockenson added a TD catch himself, his 5th of the season.
On Defense Jahlani Tavai and Devon Kennard each had a pair of sacks. Trey Flowers got his first sack of the season as well. Darius Slay had a pick 6, and Rashaan Melvin got his first interception of the season.
WHAT WENT WRONG
Not much. Stafford did throw his first interception of the season, but all in all, this was a very dominating performance by a really good team.
WR Marvin Jones was lost to a dislocated elbow late in the game. He is expected to miss at least 3 weeks, possibly more. This means that either rookie Rod Tidwell, or Danny Amendola will have to step up. It could also mean an opportunity for Jermaine Kearse to get playing time.
WHAT WE LEARNED
The Lions defense is good. REALLY REALLY good. This isn't a team to sleep on. The offense is pretty good as well.
The Packers aren't very good on defense. They have given up 35, 34, 24, and 40 points the last 4 weeks.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lions head back home, where they will host the 2-4 Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota is coming off of a 24-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Kirk Cousins is having a good season, throwing for 1578 yards and 11 TD, with only 2 INT. But the Vikings running game hasn't been very good. And with the Lions boasting the league's best defense, it looks like a good match up on paper. But, the Vikings are capable of putting pressure on the quarterback. And they have a pair of really talented receivers that could give the Lions secondary fits.
Look for a relatively close game with the Lions coming out on top at home.
