Fantastic Freshman: Iannotti Leads Eagles to 34-9 Victory in MAC Opener
Eastern Michigan elects to burn redshirt on true freshman QB Mark Iannotti in week before game | Iannotti fantastic in college debut, throws for 200+ and 3 TD | Eastern Michigan heads to hostile Toledo for night game showdown
AP Ypsilanti – Eastern Michigan started off their conference schedule with a dominating win over the Akron Zips 34-9. The storyline of the week and the game was the decision by Eastern Michigan head coach Dan Clayton to burn the redshirt on true freshman QB Mark Iannotti and start him in the team's fifth game of the season. The Eagles passing game had suffered tremendously in recent weeks since junior starter QB Alex Gillett suffered a broken collarbone in week two and was lost for the season. Redshirt freshman QB Tyler Benz started the next two games and had a miserable showing, throwing for under 50% and having a 2:5 touchdown:interception ratio. Iannotti is considered to be the future for the Eastern Michigan program at the quarterback position.
Highly touted freshman signal caller Mark Iannotti did not disappoint in his debut throwing for 247 yards and three scores.
Eastern Michigan dominated their conference opponents for the majority of the game as Iannotti guided the offense on several early scoring driving. He quickly found a favorite target in junior WR Kinsman Thomas. The duo hooked up for 109 yards and a score on the afternoon. The Eagles running game, that has struggled in the past two weeks, found new life as senior HB Corey Welch ran for 84 yards.
Despite the stellar play of the offense, player of the game accolades still had to go to senior DE Brad Ohrman. The Niles, Michigan native had one of his best games of his career as he collected three sacks and a forced fumble. Ohrman leads the Eagles with six sacks on the season.
"Mark (Iannotti) played a fanastic game. There is no doubt in my mind that he is going to be a special player for us." -- Eagles Head Coach Dan Clayton
Eastern Michigan (3-2) will head on the road next week to meet conference foe Toledo (2-3) in a night time matchup. Lead by senior HB Adonis Thomas, the Rockets have a prolific offense loaded with senior talent. Junior WR Erik Page, the speedster from Perrysburg, Ohio, will be another player to keep an eye on. Toledo easily defeated the Eagles last year 42-7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM EST.

Bro I love your Around the NCAA layout, love the idea of the scrolling Top 25! So innovative. Love the decision to burn the redshirt of Iannotti, looks like it paid off!

Thank you my friend! That means a lot coming from someone as talented with layouts as you. The scrolling feature was something I have toyed with with in the past to do score updates (which I have thought about adding into this dynasty as well. We will see on that.
Benz just wasn't there as a quarterback and I want us to be at least be semi-successful during conference play. Iannotti is the future of the team and actually I think more talented than the junior Gillett. Looking forward to what the future holds with him at the helm! Thank you for the continual support!

Thank you! I played around with that HTML coding for a while before I found something I really liked. Definitely a big win for us to open up conference play and one we had to have. We are in for a much bigger challenge on the road against Toledo. Thank you for following and I hope you continue to check in!
