I’m having fun just getting comfortable with the game after installing option files from that season. All of Europe, plus the Colombian league and a proper Copa Libertadores file.

I’m still playing a bit of 2017–the wide open space issue doesn’t exist there which makes defending more fun, but there’s something about 2018 that keeps bringing me back to it.

No interest in going back to 2020, that’s for sure.

Yeah that is the man issue I notice from 2018 is that gap between midfield and defence is worse than 2020 but the CPU attacks with more variety and they defend with more urgency.

I literally keep bouncing between 2017 and 2018, and the more I do the more 2018 feels too similar to 2020. So much open space, so hard to defend and hold your shape instead of always trying to win the ball back.

I haven’t even gotten into messing with tactics much in 2017, but I know they work better than 2018.

Royce, I’m digging back into the thread you and papinho had for tactics for 2017!

I had forgot about that thread lol but popping back into PES 17 showed me how much the tactics do work compared to every PES after it although I am not sure about PES 19 as I really didn't play much of it. I do agree it is hard going back to PES 20 after jumping back to PES 17 even though it is faster the biggest thing I notice is that your defenders will actually step up to block passing lanes. I can't believe something so simple is missing in PES 20 and you really notice it in the final third.

*Edit*

Found this thread on Evoweb someone update 2017 himself Optionfile provided in the first post very interesting.

Also I have rebooted my Master League from exactly 3 years ago, having a blast, only thing that is rough is those dang baggy shorts lol such an eyesore.

I got really excited when I grabbed that file last week and then I realized it’s full of legends and retired players.

Re: PES 2017 & 2018

The AI positioning and general strategy in 2017 makes everything that came after it awful (I haven't played 2019 but have not heard the best things). They don't immediately move up the pitch, and they don't try and find the striker with a long pass immediately.

They try and break you down—it's wonderful.

Re: PES 2017 & 2018

Another great thing 2017 does is that your DMF players stay back when attacking.

I swear, after 2017 you have to apply the “defensive” advanced instruction to them (introduced in 2018) otherwise they’ll roam forward very often.

How nice it is to have a midfielder back there cutting out attacks and recycling possession, as they should.
