Sorry to see your team struggling but happy to see that Boise State is playing well in your legacy.

Is Coach Borland and relation to the great K. Borland that led E. Illinois to many victories on College Hoops 2k8 on the 2k8 forums??

Of course, he just found a new passion

I still have my ch2k8 legacy going but since it was fall i figured i would pick up my football dynasties again. I just started this new one, but I also have another one but im in like year 13 so its a waste to start a thread on it.

Thanks for following as usual Deuce, I'm always keeping up with your stuff!

Good to know. Well like I said I know you will get things turned around. I thought about doing a football thread, but I was still playing alot of Hoops well playing footall and thought it would be to much work to do both.

Looking forward to year 2 with the Panthers.

Don't know if you saw but I moved my Hoops thread over to here, because 2k forums layouts suck.

Peterson clutch as Panthers earn 1st Sun Belt win in shootout
FIU Football News

Junior RB Justin Peterson came up big for the Golden Panthers in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter, as FIU erased a 14-point deficit and scored 31 points in the 2nd half to earn their 1st Sun Belt win of the season, a 52-42 shootout home victory over Louisiana-Lafayette.

Peterson stepped in for the injured junior Casey Simmons and brought the Panthers back, rushing for 224 yards on only 13 carries and scoring 3 times, including the game-winning 73-yard TD run and another 12-yard run to put the game away. Peterson's 1st TD was a huge 59-yard jolt in the 3rd quarter that brought the Panthers within 4.

Both teams combined for nearly 1100 yards and almsot 50 first downs as the offense were on explosive display. The defenses weren't very effective in stopping the ball but they seemed to be effective in taking it away, as both teams combined for 10 turnovers in this wild game.

The Ragin' Cajuns led 21-7 after the 1st quarter, but CB Andre Paul's 103-yard interception return for a TD brought the Panthers within 7 right before the half, as ULL went into the break with a 28-21 lead.

The Cajuns scored early in the 3rd to put themselves up 35-21, but that was when the Panthers began to fire up on offense. Following a Terence Woodard field goal, Peterson broke his 1st TD to cut the lead to 35-31. Following a turnover, FIU marched down the field, working the clock and took their 1st lead of the day on sophomore RB Ray Brooks' 16-yard gallop. The Cajuns answered back with a long TD pass, but that's when Peterson took over. On the 1st play of the ensuing possession, Peterson took the handoff from DeMarcus Jean, found a hole and raced up the sideline for the game-breaking 73-yard sprint.

The Cajuns turned the ball over on downs thanks to DE Jason Rodgers 4th-down sack, and Peterson put the game away with a 12-yard TD run just 3 plays later.

QB Daniel Overstreet had a big day for the Cajuns in a losing effort, throwing for 325 yards and 3 TDs and also was a force on the ground with 113 yards rushing and a TD. Overstreet did throw 4 interceptions that helped the Panthers comeback. WRs Drew Wilson and Chris Pearman combined for 276 yards receiving and 4 TDs. RB Tyrell Fenroy added 78 yards rushing and a TD.

For FIU, they had some outstanding performances in a much-needed win. Freshman QB DeMarcus Jean wasn't that efficient in the passing game (10-of-23 for 163 yards, 2 INT) but he ran for a huge 32-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter, his 1st of the season. Jean finished with 14 yards rushing on 3 carries, his 1st positive yardage output of the season. The Panthers as a team ran for 330 yards on 42 carries.

On defense, CB Alex Galloway had hands-down his best game of the season. The senior piled up a game-high 14 tackles, including 2 for a loss, an interception, a forced fumble and also returned a 1st quarter kickoff 91 yards for a TD. His counterpart Paul recorded 7 tackles and that long return TD on an interception. DE Rodgers picked up 7 tackles and that clutch sack to end the Cajun threat.

Star RB Simmons wasn't much of a factor in the win, managing only 76 yards on 25 carries and no TDs, but the bigger news is his most recent injury. Simmons, who already has missed 2 games this season, suffered a sprained elbow in the win and it appears he will miss the final two games of the season. Peterson will step up in his place.

FIU looks to keep the ball rolling next week in their annual rivalry game with Florida Atlantic.

Coach Borland learning about FIU-FAU rivalry
FIU Football News

As Coach Borland and his 2-8 FIU Golden Panthers prepared for their next opponent in rival Florida Atlantic, he began to learn more and more about this in-state rivalry.

"It's been a fun week of practice," Coach Borland said. "The effort and intensity I've seen has been awesome. The upperclassmen have played in this game before and now how wild it can get. They are really showing their leadership skills this week."

The Panthers are coming of a 52-42 comeback win over UL-Lafayette to earn their 1st Sun Belt win of the season. Junior RB Justin Peterson ran for 224 yards and 3 second-half TDs to lead the comeback, earning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors in the process. Peterson will earn his 2nd start this season due to Casey Simmons' injury.

"Our offense has looked solid all week," Peterson said. "I feel like I can trust our lineman to make their blocks and we should have a good game running the ball."

The Panthers ran for 330 yards against the Ragin' Cajuns, their highest output of the season on the ground. The run game has been the staple of FIU's new spread option attack, but so far has been on and off. Hopefully this week, the Panthers can turn it on again and get their 2nd straight win.

"We will run the ball... a lot," Coach Borland said. "It's been our bread-and-butter all season and we're not going to change it now. We want to establish the tempo using the run, but also sneak in some passes to keep them honest. It should be a good game."

Florida Atlantic has been pretty successful in the Sun Belt this year, currently holding a 4-1 conference mark. FIU still sits near the bottom of the standings, but a big upset win over their rival could provide a spark that will lead to better things next season.

"We obviously are not going to a bowl game this year," Coach Borland said. "But with over 75% of our starters coming back next season, a bowl game is not out of the question. I want us to play well to the end the season and give us a recruiting boost for the offseason."

Recruiting will be very key for the Golden Panthers this offseason. Coach Borland has already signed 2 talented recruits but really needs to build some depth at key positions, like QB, the offensive line and most of the defense.

"I'm excited for the future of this program," Coach Borland said. "There is a lot of talent and potential here. We are building something good."

Backups lead FIU comeback but lose in 2OT thriller
FIU Football News

In a highly-anticipated rivalry matchup that lived up to the hype and more, FIU battled back from a 10-point deficit using a 3rd-string QB and 3rd-string RB to send the game into overtime, only to lose on an interception in the 2nd overtime period. Florida Atlantic's CB Ryan Chavis intercepted freshman QB Ian Wright's 3rd down pass to give FAU the 39-36 win.

It was a back-and-forth game that truly came down to the wire. FIU lead 11-8 at halftime but allowed a 21-point 3rd quarter to their rivals to head into the 4th quarter down 29-19. The Golden Panthers put together two clutch drives in the 4th quarter, getting a TD on 4th down and and a Terence Woodard FG as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 29.

In the 1st overtime, FIU scored first when Wright hit WR Shannon Ernst for his 3rd TD pass of the day, but FAU answered on their possession when RB Jeff Carter took a pitch on 3rd down and went untouched to send the game into 2OT tied at 36. In the 2nd overtime, the Panthers defense held tough and forced FAU to settle for a field goal. But on FIU's possession, they earned a first down before some tough FAU run defense set up a 3rd & 8 from the 13-yard line. Wright attempted a pass to sophomore WR Donald Anderson, who had an amazing day, but Chavis stepped in front to end the Panther threat and win the game.

Wright, who hadn't taken a single snap yet this season, entered the game late in the 2nd quarter thanks to consecutive injuries to QBs DeMarcus Jean and Will Ferguson. Wright actually threw and interception on his very 1st pass of the game, but settled down after that and was pretty effective in leading the Panther offense. He didn't have much help from the running game (55 attempts for 43 yards total) as junior RB Justin Peterson went down with an injury in the 2nd quarter, finishing with only 9 yards on 12 carries, and 3rd-string RB Ray Brooks entered but didn't produce much either (74 yards on 28 carries).

It was actually Anderson, WR Jeff Morgan and WR Shannon Ernst who gave Wright a boost. Wright finished 16-of-30 for 229 yards and 3 TDs on the day, but his 2 interceptions proved to be costly. Morgan caught 3 passes from 83 yards including Wright's 1st TD pass, while Ernst caught 5 passes for 25 yards and scored the TD in the 1st overtime. Anderson was the biggest player of the day, recording season highs in 13 catches for 215 yards and a 4th-quarter TD. With the Panthers forced to pass often, Wright was able to find Anderson and Morgan on clutch 3rd and 4th downs to keep drives alive on their comeback.

For FAU, QB Sean Chase threw for 311 yards on 14-of-26 passing and 3 TDs.

FIU will close out their 1st season under head coach Kyle Borland next week at home against 1st-place North Texas. Jean and Ferguson have already been ruled out for the game, so Wright will earn his 1st career start for the Panthers.

Senior captain suspended for season finale
FIU Football News

Some disappointing news out of FIU today as head coach Kyle Borland announced that senior offensive captain and starting guard Leonard Jones will be suspended for the Golden Panthers' season finale due to a violation of team rules. It is the 5th player suspension this season and the 2nd suspension for a team captain.

"I am very disappointed and saddened to announce this," Coach Borland said in a brief press conference. "Senior offensive captain Leonard Jones is suspended for this weekend's game against North Texas. Jones violated a team rule and must sit out."

It is unclear what Jones did to earn his punishment but rumor has it that he had broken curfew several times and the coaching staff had heard enough.

"I have been extremely disappointed in the senior leadership I've seen in my 1st year," Coach Borland said. "First I had to suspend Galloway for 3 games and now Jones acts up the week before his final game as a Panther. I guess next year I will have to choose my captains a little more closely."

FIU welcomes North Texas, who sits atop the Sun Belt standings at 7-4 overall and a 5-1 conference mark, to this weekend's contest. At 2-9, the Golden Panthers are not bowl eligible but upsetting the top Sun Belt team would be a satisfying ending to a tough 1st year under Coach Borland and provide a huge momentum boost going into the offseason.
