Los Angeles Lakers 103, Houston Rockets 102 | November 8, 2023

Lakers escape with another close win on the road against Houston
Lakers having tough time closing out opponents lately

Recap of Lakers/Rockets game played on November 8, 2023

1st Quarter
The Rockets hosting the Lakers for the first time this season, started out on a high note thanks to Jalen Green who scored 10 of the Rockets first 13 points to open the game. Back-to-back layups by Alperen Sengun gave the Rockets a nine-point lead, 23-14. The Lakers were able to knock the Rockets lead down to five points by the end of the quarter, 26-21.

2nd Quarter
The Lakers continued to chase the Rockets in the second quarter before finally capturing the lead when LeBron James hit two free throws. The Rockets would reclaim the lead over the next minute, but the Lakers used a 9-2 run to end the first half leading 61-57.

3rd Quarter
The Lakers led througout the third quarter, including at one point leading by their biggest margin of the game, nine points, 72-63 on Austin Riers three-point basket. The Rockets mounted a comeback and outscored the Lakers 13-5 to pull to within one point, 77-76. The Lakers were up 83-80 until Reggie Bullock scored on a layup just before the quarter ended. The Lakers headed into the fourth quarter with a one-point lead 83-82.

4th Quarter
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers would extend their lead to four-points, 86-82 and 90-86, but the Rockets would go on a quick 6-0 run and reclaim the lead 92-90. LeBron James scored the next six points, giving the Lakers back the lead, 96-92 in the process. Alperen Sengun scored consecutive layups on the Rockets next two possessions as the Rocktes took the lead, 100-99 with under two minutes to go. After Christian Wood scored, giving the Lakers a 101-100 lead the Rockets counted on Alperen Sengun down on post and he came through, scoring and giving the Rockets an 102-101 lead. LeBron James attacked the basket and was fouled by Jabari Smith Jr. sending James to the free throw line, down by one with 1.1 seconds left in the game. LeBron James knocked down both free throws and a desperation attempt by Dillon Brooks from near half court fell short and the Lakers held on for a 103-102 win, their fourth win on the road this year and third straight.
