Lakers make Magic disappear in double overtime victory
LeBron takes over game in fourth, Magic had no answers
Recap of Magic/Lakers game played on October 30, 2023
1st Quarter
A back and forth opening quarter between the Magic and Lakers. Anthony Davis gave the Lakers a late three-point lead, 17-14, but the Magic answered right back thanks to Wendell Carter Jr and his perimeter shooting. Both teams struggled from the field (Lakers 35% shooting and the Magic 40% shooting) as they ended the first quarter tied up 20-20.
2nd Quarter
Both teams continued to struggle shooting in the second quarter. The Magic grabbed a six-point lead, 34-28 with just 4:57 remaining, but the Lakers took the lead back, 38-37 on a LeBron James jumper. The Lakers defense has been whats kept them in the game so far, but a miscommunication on the final possession of the first half allowed Paolo Banchero an uncontested layup at the rim giving the Magic the lead at halftime, 39-38.
3rd Quarter
The Lakers came out in the second half on fire, starting the quarter with an 11-5 run and taking a four-point lead 49-45 after a D'Angelo Russell three-pointer. As both teams traded baskets and the lead during the quarter the Magic were able to get several defensive stops down the stretch and take advantage of their transition offense, taking a 71-67 lead into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter
As the fourth quarter got underway the Lakers recaptured the lead, 78-77, when James attacked and scored a layup. The Magic then went on a 12-0 run two and half minutes and took their biggest lead of the game, nine points, 89-80 with 6:30 to go in the game. The Lakers responded right back with a 12-0 run of their own that was started with back-to-back three-pointers from Gabe Vincent and Austin Reaves. Reaves putback layup gave the Lakers the lead, 90-89 and followed up by Davis' slam dunk on the next possession put the Lakers up by three, 92-89. With the game tied 95-95, Wendell Carter Jr hit a go ahead three-pointer with 1:06 remaining in the game. The Lakers cut the deficit to one on a James layup and then intentionally fouling Carter Jr, who hit only one of two free throws with four seconds remaining. Following a timeout the Lakers got the ball inbounds to LeBron James who attacked the basket and put in the layup to the game 99-99 with 1.4 seconds left. The Magic out of timeouts could only throw up a desperation shot from the backcourt as the buzzer sounded and both teams heading into overtime tied 99-99.
1st Overtime
The Orlando Magic struck first in overtime. Paolo Banchero scored back-to-back layups to give the Magic a quick four-point lead, 103-99. Austin Reaves three-point basketball pulled the Lakers to within one point, 103-102 and LeBron James dunk on the subsequent offensive possession gave the Lakers the lead 104-103.

Wendell Carter Jr scored the next four points for the Magic, tying the game up at 109-109. The Lakers retook the lead on a LeBron James dunk, 111-109, but Paolo Banchero drove to the basket and hit a 15 foot jumper over Anthony Davis to send this game to a second overtime, 111-111.
