NBA Playgrounds Releases on May 9 For $20, New Details & Gameplay Video

NBA Playgrounds is scheduled to release on May 9 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC for $20. Polygon has posted quite a few new details about the game, some of them we've listed below. Be sure to read the full article here.

Over 300 different dunks
Lottery Pick meter gives the user a random special ability for a limited time
Can be played by four people in the same room
Online 2-player head to head will be available at launch, 4-player update coming soon after launch
Post-release roster updates
Progression mechanic unlocks the entire roster gradually
Packs unlock players, each pack contains 5 players, you start off with 3 packs. THERE ARE NO MICROTRANSACTIONS!
Dunk contest and a three-point contest are scheduled to release at a later date
Charles Barkley and Kobe Bryant will NOT be on the roster

Launching with two-player head to head on-line support. Adding 4 player on-line support in an "early update".

Couch co-op on-line play. Exactly what I was looking for. This sounds great.

I'm tempted to bite the bullet. It checks all the boxes, it's got Jam's style
and pure nostalgia.

But I'm also weary. I hope OS (or its members) can do a preview.k

I don't know. I still see more Jam than Street (which is fine, I loved both games).

I don't see the dribble moves/chaining of dribbles to be compared to street.

It looks like they took Jam and put it on Street courts.

Also, its only one quarter long ? Can that be changed ? Is that default for online play ?

Yea I would have liked to see a little more NBA Street in the game. But still very much looking forward to this.

This was gameplay footage from the beta version. I'm assuming that is why it is only 1 quarter

What's the solo aspect?

Unlockables? Some sort of tour type mode.

They say pretty much everyone is available except Barkley and Kobe in the article... surely Jordan too? Else why leave him off the base roster? Why not mention him too?

Also some massive legends not on the original roster surely will be added later? I hope they just keep adding, especially all the current guys

This is excellent news! Pumped to see what needs to be done to get packs. Trying to unlock players will keep me grinding.

No Jordan is not he signed a deal with 2k

Kobe, Jordan, and Barkley are definitely not in the game

I think this DLC only. No physical disc.

Game looks good and I'll probably pick it up for Switch, but one question I have is why attest every made basket is there whistle? Just curios.
