Please, please, please!

Scott is all basketball, no gimmick. Watching his segment this week felt like watching a segment on ESPN or NBA TV. No badges; no automatic anything. Boiled down, basketball is about geometry (see Jalen Rose podcasts) and creating numbers advantages. It is a simple game, but a thinking game. Scott reviewed some tools to go with that.

Listening to Scott really got me fired-up as MyLeague was loading. Everything he touched on I am familiar with, ... Read More

Why 2K?

I try to be reasonable. I try to immerse myself into the context of the situation.

You have the absolute best simulation. This is simply basketball: It does not need sauce, sprinkles, bells, whistles... it is an entertainment unto itself.

Every year there is an over-used, automatic immersion animation that is absolutely dumb:

The first one that drove me crazy was the layup celebration 2-minutes into the game with a score of 4-2: ... Read More

Picking your battles: 2K19 MyLeague AI gets this done. It's always been there, but with each improvement, I feel it a little more. You're not going to win every possession, but you try to win some key ones, string them together over 48-minutes, and hope the chips fall your way. Roleplayers can prevent this when they... well... do their role.

I remember Grant Hill saying everyone in The League can do something; there is a reason they hold a roster spot. Now and then, we outside of ... Read More

Yeah, I'm still on 2K18. I'm an old man marketing hype doesn't work on me; I can wait until September 11. There's no early purchase incentive for MyLeague.

Getting impatient though All the gameplay footage looks great... and I have the AI playing fantastic highly realistic basketball. I'll probably play a quarter or so with all settings "from the factory" initially. I was watching ShadyMike last night: He says he may have spotted one or two sliders that are reversed. Gameplay ... I am a basketball-head... pure... simple.

I saw a YouTube by TruthChaserProtocol today: Haven't really seen him in my feed much in the last 365; today may have actually been the first time. I get the feeling if he is not making YouTubes about how 2K could be better, he is consumed somewhere with basketball. I can relate: I play 2K MyLeague everyday... getting that fix.

Last time I was here I spoke once again about presentation and rage-quitting. I cannot lie: There ... Read More

Pacman and Mount And Blade require me to use the controller not hold it. I flinch every time the whistle sounds.

So tired of these stupid ***, repetitive, meaningless cutscenes; they break the flow of gameplay. This is a Powerpoint for dumb asses.

Why can't we just play basketball 2K? I never get the same gameplay animations twice.

Finally, it feels like game-play... animations... are the story in 2K once again. The drama of MyLeague was between the lines for me tonight. I do not think I saw the same cut-scene, and I am at the beginning of the fourth quarter. In my perfect world, there would be no cut-scenes; I can live when they do not repeat.

Early day tomorrow; I will try to talk more then.

I just got to the first timeout of the first quarter of MyLeague: Play simply flowed.

There were no face close-ups; no bar graphs; no pie charts.

Nothing broke the flow of the game: It was simply end-to-end action and strategy. The controller did not rest in my hands for 6-7 minutes... just like Pacman.

Why do I feel like crying? It is overcoming to see something you care about touch it's potential.

I've stopped for now: Gotta go to the ... Read More

...just wow. This is incredible!

I started typing this as I was playing today as I wanted to follow-up as I said I would from typing last night.

The game-play has an even better crispness and responsiveness after this mornings update. I was pleased with my perceived game-play animation outcomes improvement from the previous two updates; I did not think it could improve more. I am playing at Game Speed 56; I may cut back to 54.

I hope it is not my imagination: ... Read More

...there is a stupid, repetitive, useless (strategy-wise) animation or behavior executed by the AI that is simply frustrating.

It's 11:09 PM: I completed a MyLeague game a couple hours ago; I lost. I'd like to go again and redeem myself in the next game on the schedule, but I really don't feel like cursing right now. The animation or set of animations will come up: I'm unwound now and I'll end the evening pleasantly by getting in bed and watching a little Family Guy.

Once I've seen player interviews and miked coaches a few times, it becomes extraneous.

A short-term solution could be mixing in 2KTV clips. A long-term solution: Develop software that would move the mouth in time with any recording.

Another August and the football and basketball hype trains are loaded and left, or loaded and leaving. This is the pre-season for game fans of those particular sports, and people are limbering-up on every tidbit of marketing hype trotted out. Can't blame them... despite twenty years of the circus, I'm not jaded enough to not watch a YouTube with something quality about its information. Every team has the potential for champion during pre-season, and every fan is hopeful.

Obviously, I like/want smooth presentation in MyLeague; rather, I do not want gameplay animations and strategy (the nuts and bolts of this game) watered-down with unnecessary presentation bloat.

Here is an idea: Adapt a version of VIP to track my button presses so presentation adapts to me.

As I have said, the immersion animations are not bad, they are insulting: Each animation suffers from overuse and/or lack of context. Every MyLeague game draws out too long; the ... Read More

I almost want to cry. You know, that man kind of cry. The Michael-Jordan-clutching the Larry O'Brien Trophy kind of cry. I am addicted to this game and the unfolding stories of MyLeague once again.

Previously, the game would get so into immersion that it slowed the game horrendously; imagine playing any of the head-to-head or social modes and having play continuously interrupted by atmosphere outside of the court. Anyone who has played in reality has experienced the tunnel vision ... Read More

On a high note: I have developed a slider set that works for me and gives me great basketball AI and animations. I am a YouTube fan of TruthChaserProtocol for NBA 2K and RyanMoody for Madden. Both of them seek AI and animation improvements from the development teams that are logical and close to real world for those respective games.

Despite having great sliders, I was still seeing “X-Men Basketball”: Players using psychic powers to make steals, manipulate opponents, and occasionally ... Read More
