Summerslam 2015 was the main roster debut of Braun Strowman as the newest member of the Wyatt Family. Summerslam 2015 was held on August 24th, so 8 years to the day of Braun's debut, Bray passes away. Damn it... the more I read the more this hurts worse.

Say what you want about how his return ended up going, but what a return night it was.

This still doesn't feel real.

Is this the first superstar death in WWE since Benoit?

Brodie was in AEW, and other deaths like Dusty, Fink and so on they weren't talent but behind the scenes staff.

Its crazy how similar this does feel to Brodie though.

I think so. Nothing is coming into my head. Shad was in the indies.

Brodie was tough. This one is legitimately hard to wrap my brain around.

You mean as far as active roster guys? If that’s the case then yes. My immediate thought was Umaga or Lance Cade, but they both had already been released before their deaths. So this is def the first superstar who was under contract and performing in-ring for the company that’s passed since Benoit.

2023 has been a rough year for the industry in terms of people we’ve lost.

Jay Briscoe
Droz
Jerry Jarrett
Iron Sheik
Lanny Poffo
Superstar Billy Graham
Terry Funk
Bray Wyatt

First of all, this is tragic no matter how you look at it. 36 is way too young and I think I read he had 4 kids. Very sad.

I've slowly dwindled out of the product as a fan but I was a weekly viewer when the Wyatt family debuted. I've actually been to a couple different house shows where he had a match, one where he main evented.

Really enjoyed his characters and creativity. Prayers for his family.

That first night back - as well as the debut of The Fiend - was pretty amazing as a modern pro wrestling fan.

It would have been interesting to see how things could've played out with Bray and all his various incarnations.

His in-ring work got a little stale at times, but there was no questioning his promo skills and creative mind. He literally had 5 or 6 versions of himself (including Husky Harris) and nearly all of them were over.

RIP Windham Rotunda (AKA Bray Wyatt)
