Re: AEW Double or Nothing 5/28/23

MJF name dropping Nick Khan in front of Tony Khan at the media scrum made me laugh a lot.

Tony Khan mentioning that this was the 5th Double or Nothing. That makes me feel old for some reason, damn.

Yeah, I was sitting in front of the stage and could see several empty seats on that side. There were people there but yeah, you could have bought a ticket at the arena likely.

Think it's more of just doing the same market over and over. They need to move these shows around, like if you want to stick to the gambling theme then go to Atlantic City next year.

My suggestion was to do the Mohegan Sun Arena. It keeps the gambling theme as you are literally in an arena that is part of a casino. The Vegas market has just been saturated. They need to find new markets to go to.

Yeah I saw that and he mentioned WWE, Triple H and such...the look on Khans face was funny. I'm assuming that was planned? If not seems the guys don't have much respect for Khan cause it's not the first time he's had that look on his face at media scrum after someone has said something.

Yeah he's in on it. There were parts when he struggled to not corpse at some of the things MJF was saying.

Re: AEW Double or Nothing 5/28/23

From an in-person perspective, I certainly enjoyed myself at the show. Could they have had a better card? Sure but you could say about any wrestling promotion where you will have some PPVs/PLEs that are duds every once in a while. I do think more of the crowd being dead last night was due to running the same market over and over as I said. Overall, I did have a good time with this being my first AEW PPV.

Enjoyed the fan fest as well, could have had the merchandise area bigger as they kept it to a small area opposed to when WWE was here for Summerslam and their merch was scattered throughout the MGM Grand Ballroom. Met Jamie Hayter (hate she's injured, glad I met her before she lost the Championship), Adam Cole & Britt Baker both were really nice and I talked to them a bit.

Wanted to meet Danielson but only AEW merchandise were able to be signed as I would have wanted him to sign my Wrestlemania 30 Program guide. I did meet Simon Miller from What Culture Wrestling while at AEW Fan Fest, really cool guy and has no problem talking to fans.

I don't know why this still happens, but they have to figure out pacing and letting moments breathe. Statlander won, they did the confetti and fans tried to start a 'You Deserve it' chant but seconds later they faded to black and were on to the video package for the next match. With that being Jade's first loss and her big return from injury back, let her soak that crowd reaction in. I think they should have started the show with that, to really pop the crowd in the first match of the night. Even letting Sammy, Darby & Jungleboy stay in the ring and get a standing ovation after the Fatal 4 Way but nope, fade to black and on to the next match. Pacing & match order is still something AEW needs to figure out.

Re: AEW Double or Nothing 5/28/23

Now getting to Double or Nothing.

Acclaimed went there with Buddy and brought up Dominik!

That was a good four pillars match, although I'm surprised that didn't main event the show. Nice throwback with everyone hitting the finishers of their current or former mentors.

And that main event was all over the place for good and bad reasons. You saw so many crazy things, but obviously missed lots of it too. That ending is definitely setting up Forbidden Door 2 isn't it?

As for the empty seats by the hard cam, were those tickets for sale from day 1? We often see sections not released until later, usually its that section.
