In Championship news, Sunderland are in the playoff their first year back and Millwall completely bottled it. They were up 3-1 and lost 4-3.

I’d be a bit bummed to see them drop, but it’s been coming for many years at this point.

Which is sad—second year after they came up they finished 8th, followed by 7th, then 6th, then 8th. Then the every year is a relegation scrap started, five years in a row now.

Man refereeing needs an overhaul or something. How can you watch both the Martinelli and Caicedo challenges and think neither deserves any card at all? Like good lord Martinelli isn’t even challenging for the ball, and he clearly wasn’t even remotely sorry.

Tbh I’m already upset in advance that it’s going to take a player getting seriously injured before they consider any sweeping changes.

They use their stupid decisions to justify more stupid decisions which makes it even worse. You know the thinking was, well, Caicedo definitely was late and deserves a booking…but now that I think about it I really should’ve booked Martinelli. Damn, I guess we’re even and nobody can complain.

That was setting the stage for yet another infuriating and cowardly refereeing performance (from the perspective of both clubs).

They had a chance when people were making a big deal about Harry Kane doing that ridiculous undercutting. There are so many things they need to revisit and that’s one of them, would have been a great starting point.

Instead they just ignored it, probably very thankful Kane just decided to police himself and stopped doing it. Now Martinelli is doing it and they’ve already established they don’t really care. The challenge he made on Mitoma today gets you a red card in rugby, didn’t even warrant a booking for a prem ref cause it’s early in the game. How many times this season have we seen completely ridiculous challenges go unpunished?

They won’t change anything until someone gets a terrible injury, and then they will claim nobody could have known this would happen.
