There's talk of him being stripped of the United captaincy today, and rightfully so. Can't believe he was given the armband in the first place.

But yeah, he was in Greece, not North Korea, so he'll just pay the fines and not go to Greece again.
It's bizarre that his trial happened so quickly after the event and he wasn't even present for the trial. I see his lawyers are going to appeal. I don't know if there is any merit to his appeal but the lack of due process makes it seem more like North Korea.

He had his day in court. This wasn't a murder charge. Both sides gave their version of events and a decision was made. Thought it was fair enough, no?

On minor charges like this in a system where there isn't a backlog, this is pretty much par for the course.

I haven't read an in-depth story about the trial. I did read that the defense lawyers received the police notes the night before the trial and requested an adjournment of the trial as a result. They were refused. However, it appears they did call witnesses at the trial.

It's not really clear why the accused weren't called to give evidence by the defense lawyers. The defense is claiming there is video of the police "mistreating" them which doesn't appear was available for the trial. I imagine that would have prompted a request for an adjournment as well. Apparently, the defense lawyers made three requests for an adjournment and were denied.

It turns out Maguire and the other dudes are appealing the verdict and from the articles I read the result of any appeal in Greece is a new trial in a higher court. Sounds weird and I could be 100 per cent wrong.

You know what's more odd? Me standing up for a United player.

Community Shield is tomorrow? Holy cow it hasn't even been a month since Arsenal was in the FA Cup final.

Anyone know why it’s not the weekend before league matches start?
