I guess I don’t really see any harm in sticking with 5

Re: 2019-20 English Football Thread

Does that mean if they go back to 3 subs they are also reverting back to 7 subs? Some teams were barely able to fill 9 spots on their bench after the hiatus. Everton & Burnley were always having to name 2 goalkeepers on the bench. In some cases they had 7 or 8 subs only.

In some ways you could argue that it favors the big squads having 5 subs. And in the case of Burnley you could argue it gives their youth players a taste of being in a match day squad.

I don't see any harm in keeping 5.

Some say it helps the bigger clubs who can bring on better players. I don't know the numbers of the impact so no idea how helpful it is. I did see an article that clubs lower in the table used the extra subs more than teams higher up in both the PL and Bundesliga.

It def helps the bigger deeper clubs like City.

One of the matches after the restart...Pep brought on Sterling, Bernando Silva, Jesus, Rodri, and a defensive player. Just crazy

Yeah but like Liverpoolred said, it also sort of forces smaller squads to maybe use some of their youth a bit more.

Tbh as much crap as Chelsea has gotten over the years, a lot of teams that usually hang out in the bottom half, and teams like Burnley etc., are absolutely awful about using their academy players.

I don’t know, it’s been three subs forever. I think it should stay that way. And they better stop that mid half timeout because it clearly was not heat dependent.

Re: 2019-20 English Football Thread

I'd say in the general interest of player health and safety, extra subs is probably not really a bad thing overall.

Personally I can't really think of a reason to go back to 3 subs other than "it wasn't like that before and we fear change", which obviously is probably not a great reason.

The clubs also unanimously voted to adopt the Full FIFA version of VAR, including actually using the pitch side monitors.
