I am not nostalgic for the early 80s (well, not for the hockey of the early 80s, anyway).
This is very true.
And yet, despite all of that the game still featured multiple odd-man rushes, breakaways, an abundance of legit scoring chances and goals and acrobatic saves.
Not only that, but you could actually follow the puck and not lose it as soon as a dman blasted it.

I just turned on the Dallas game and in the past 2+ minutes of actual gameplay, I've yet to see one skilled play.
It's been nothing but chip and chase and grinding along the walls.

But you're right, todays game is better than the 95-05 era.
This era is basically the same but without half the clutching and grabbing.

Granted, tonight's game isn't a great example. And the ice looks very mushy.

I think Tampa/Vegas would be a very entertaining, high-skill series.
Any other remaining combination, not so much.

You should've watched the Canucks more often, Money! Their gameplan is all high risk, high skill, give up a million chances, pray that Markstrom/Demko can bail them out.

Re: Watching Old Games During Suspended Season

So imagine something like this happening today. It's basically Claude Lemieux on Draper x100. A 2nd round playoff series between bitter rivals who finished 1st and 3rd overall in the league. McSorley spears Mike Bullard (who had 48 goals, 103 points that season) in the balls so hard that his stick breaks and Bullard is taken off in a stretcher. The Oilers scored on the play (the goal counted, and McSorley got an assist) en route to a sweep and an eventual Cup. Oh, and a Messier elbow sent another Flame to the hospital in the same game as this clip (featuring young Doc Emrick!).

Again: this was the biggest series of the playoffs that year. McSorley not only didn't receive a penalty on this play, he got an assist!

LOL!
I actually did watch quite a bit of Canucks hockey this post season.
You have a very entertaining hockey club over there. EP is worth the price of admission.

I agree with this. And Quinn Hughes is a pretty unique defenseman too... His skating and puck control is pretty impressive. Just hope they can afford to keep the team they started building...

Re: Watching Old Games During Suspended Season

I think there's a lot of value in being able to watch old games, especially during times when live sports aren't readily available.
