Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Hawerchuk in his prime was an amazing talent, a consistent top 5-10 player for a decade, who just had the misfortune of being in the wrong place (Smythe Division) at the wrong time (1980s).

I didn’t know the history at the time (I was 6 just getting in to the sport), but his name was super cool and those mid 90s Flyers teams were what I grew up on. Sad to see someone pass with much more life ahead of them.
Remembering hearing a story about him and Ronning.
Both guys were in their late 40's or early 50's and they decided to play in a rec tournament.
They both quit halfway thru because they were being slashed and abused every shift.
The refs refused to call penalties against them because they were too good. Hockey in a nut shell.

I saw Hawerchuk play live a few years ago as the Old Timers came through our town playing local police and firemen.
Hawerchuk hit the crossbar on his first 6 shots. It seemed blatant. I wouldn't have been surprised he made a bet with someone he could do that.
Because after hitting the crossbar 6 times in a row, he sniped 3 goals, top-shelf, on his next 3 shots.
Despite being far removed from his playing days, he was unbelievably good. You got the sense of just how incredible he was in his heyday.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Huge news.

Coyotes have been stripped of their 2020 2nd round pick and their 2021 1st round pick due to violating the combine testing policy.

So they'll have no picks in first 3 rounds this year and won't have their 1st and either 2nd or 3rd pick in 2021.

What exactly did they do? I had heard some things but didn’t realize the penalty was going to be so harsh. That’s major.

NHL taking some heat for games happening today.

I mean, nobody is surprised the NHL is just carrying on with their business, but everyone seems disappointed.

Although of all the leagues, NHL can afford to stop playing games the least.

Not sure if this is the entire reason, but they've been conducting physical testing on draft eligible players before the combine itself.

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

So, Dale Tallon if allegations proven true, should never be in the league again.

It's one thing to have racist comments come up from 10-20 years ago, but apparently he did so while in the bubble!

If he stays in the league, that will prove how little they care about the HDA or anything the NHL in general has been stating lately.

Like always, people strongly against the equality talk. People want to boycott the NHL because the NHL is supporting equality. I legit saw someone reply to me being like "If we're having equality, let's have a specific number of obese people required on all teams".

These are the same people who probably had ancestors that were like "If women are allowed to vote, what's next, allowing pets to vote?".

Re: NHL Off-Topic thread

Something I saw thrown around that I wonder how realistic it would be to happen.

What if NHL retired Willie O'Rees number league wide like MLB did for Jackie Robinson?
