Off the top of my head;
Breaking Away - Patrick O'Sullivan story.
Must read. Amazing (and upsetting).
The Russian Five: A Story of Espionage, Defection, Bribery and Courage by Keith Gave
This book was amazing. Details how they got some of these guys out of Russia. The Vlad details are worthy of a movie on their own and almost not even believable.
Slap Shot Original: The Man, the Foil, and the Legend - Dave Hanson
Great book on not only Dave Hanson's story but a lot of behind the scenes stuff of the movie.
Essentially, everything that happened in the film actually happened on the ice in the NAHL - which was the WHA's farm system at the time.
The actor who portrayed Ogie Ogalthorpe in the film is actually the screenwriters brother and the real life Ned Bradon.
EDIT: I forgot about these two:
Memoir of a Hockey Nobody: They said I couldn't make the NHL, so I went out and proved them right!
Book about a guy who didn't play anything but road hockey until he was 18. He eventually made his way onto a Sr A roster competing for an Allen Cup. He even got a tryout with a minor-pro team.
Some great stories in there. It's quite short. Not sure if that helps sell it more or not, lol. But it's something you could likely read over a weekend - or even a day.
Goon: Memoir of a Minor League Hockey Enforcer
This is the guy the movie Goon was based off of.
Guy could barely skate and yet ends up in the AHL for a stint as an enforcer.
Very entertaining read.
