Blue Jackets hire Todd Richards as head coach.

Scott Howson everybody. Still being allowed to ruin this franchise.

Did he even interview anyone else?

I'm assuming that the move suggests Howson's job is safe at this moment? How does he still have this job?

I feel for ya CBJ fans!

Howson has his job on lock down. Apparently the organization thinks that hiring Craig Patrick to be the overseer is the only change needed.

And no, there were no interviews.

I stand corrected, Dale Hunter stepped down as the Caps coach.

I think that he was always planning to head back to the London Knights as he has a good thing going there with his brother. His heart seems to be there. It didn't seem like the NHL was where he wanted to be, right now. He was basically a rental almost "doing a favor" for the Caps. It's a shame, he did a good job with the team. He finally got some of D-play in DC.

I don't think he and Ovie would have been a good match for an 82-game schedule.

There must be a Quebec City mole in the upper echelons of CBJ management, it's the only explanation. Why else would the Jackets be following the Don Waddell/Thrashers blueprint?

Re: The Official NHL 2012 Off-Season Thread

I think Hunter would've been good for the Caps, but I think this ended up being a situation where either Hunter or Ovie had to go, and of course they have to keep Ovie around. Sort of akin to the Orlando Magic Howard-Van Gundy situation; town's not big enough for the both of them.

I should say, I have absolutely no insight into the situation in D.C., and I'm just talking out of my rear. Just giving a total outsider opinion, based on nothing solid whatsoever.
