The 2012 NHL Trade Deadline

Welp, it's closing in on us. Just saw the Flyers made a move (2 picks, a 2nd and a 3rd, for Stars' defensemen Nicklas Grossman), so I figured I'd start the official thread.

Big names on the market, we'll see what actually happens. I think we'll get one or two big names moved, and a flurry of small activity. The small moves are usually the ones that pay off in the end anyway, as the 3rd/4th liners and 5th/6th defensemen seem to be the difference in 7 game series as stars neutralize opposing stars.

Very nice move on acquiring Grossman, good move on both sides imo.

Also from earlier

Re: The 2012 NHL Trade Deadline

Who would be happy about playing in Columbus? Smaller, "undesirable" markets simply must draft well, there's just no getting around it.

Good drafting is the only reason Nashville's been a playoff team the last couple of years.

More than half their current roster came from the draft.

Dominic Moore and a 7th to the Sharks for a 2nd.

Moore now on his 9th team since the lockout! Mike Sillinger must be looking over his shoulder.

Nuts, wanted JJ too.

It's more obvious now that getting a really good established player is not going to happen. That being said, that could be for the best if they can find a team with a lot of young prospects.

Supposedly, the Rangers are the leader right now but...honestly, we'll see.

Forward Blake Geoffrion was also included in the Hal Gill deal.

He is the first Tennessee-born player to play for the Predators. He was a fan-favorite, but hasn't played much this season. He's still got a ways to go before being NHL-ready.

Interesting deal. Predators are definitely in the "win now" mode.
