Why do canadian hockey players interview the way they do?

Always wondered why a typical hockey interview has all the "uhs" in it:

And...uh....I got the puck but...uh....the defensemen pokechecked it and...uh...luckily my teammate got it back and...uh...set up the one timer.

And, yes, I realize not all Canadians talk like this. But it sure seems like every canadian hockey player does. Any reason why?

It's not just Canadian players, it's every hockey player.

I hate it too but it's the way they're taught basically. Everything stays within the locker room, etc.

Yeah it's not just a Canadian thing. Ever listen to a radio interview (not during a game/after a game) with a hockey player? My goodness! It's the most mind numbing stuff ever. Everything is spun positively and there's no real insight into the game or the player at all.

I listened to Phaneuf doing an interview yesterday and I swear it was the most banal stuff i've ever heard.

Jay Bouwmeester is the worst interview in sports...

I will bet any of you 100 bucks, you won't find a more boring interview with an athlete than him.

The only good interviews in hockey for the last 25 years were pretty much Patrick Roy and Roenick. As a Panther fan i can atest to Bouwmeester being not only the worst interview in sports but also quite possibly the dullest most boring personality in sports history. He makes Wayne Gretzky seem like Ric Flair.

I think the majority of people in all walks of life insert a lot of "uhhs" and "umms" into their speech, even when they don't have a microphone in their face. Now if you want to talk about hockey-isms, count the number of times players say "obviously"... Conspiracy? Isn't it obvious?
