Montreal could have gotten more for Theo in the offseason when he was healthy, I'm confused why they made this deal now.
Aebischer was taken only to be a solid back up for Huet. Theodore has been average since he was MVP 4 years ago and is a small goalie who has been hurt by the smaller equipment and has only had 1 great season. The Habs saved 3 Million in cap space to go after free agents in the summer or even make a bigger trade tomorrow for a front line player. They are loaded with goalies and now avoid paying Theodore 5.33 Million for the next 2 years. Montreal can't lose in this deal and jumped on it knowing the return would be someone who makes alot less money and corrected the mistake of overpaying him in the 1st place.

Agreed. Long term, this could be a good deal for Colorado, but it's puzzling given Theodore's poor play and injury (he's not expected to return until the last week of the regular season). The Avs are only 6 points up on 9th place Anaheim (who have 3 games in hand). Are they planning to ride Peter Budaj for a month, hope they hang onto a playoff spot, and then hand the reins to a goalie having a terrible year and coming off a serious injury for the first round of the playoffs? That sounds bizarre. Either a.) the other shoe's going to drop on Thursday, b.) Lacroix has an awful lot of confidence in Budaj, or c.) Lacroix doesn't think the Avs are going anywhere in the playoffs this year and is thinking about 06/07.

What's even worse Theodore is not known as playing well under pressure and they'll be pressure if he comes back with the Avs fighting for thier playoff lives. Even during his MVP year he played lousy in the playoffs and has never been steller in any other playoff year. He also has a big weakness of letting in soft goals at the worse times, has trouble controlling rebounds and is streaky where he will either be very good or very bad because he loses his focus easily. I think Lacroix is reaching in trying to rekindle the Roy trade while paying this guy 5.5 Million next year and over 6 Million the year after.

Re: NHL Trade Deadline

Flyers acquire D Dennis Gauthier from the Coyotes for Josh Gratton and 2 second round picks.

Kings acquired Brent Sopel and Mark Parrish. I was hoping the Flyers would pick up Parrish.

Is Gauthier ever a nasty customer. One of the best hitters in the league, he injured players. Trouble is he hurts himself a lot because of his style of play. If he can stay healthy the Flyers will definitely benefit.
