They are going to have to replace players with undrafted or extremely cheap players that no one else wants. They are ruining the future and it won't just be 1 year, it will set them back for years.

Nobody is saying it is to their detriment to not have draft picks. There are a lot of options in front of them though to remedy any issues with the cap though. Routine extension/restructures of several of their core players would put them well under whatever the cap ends up being.

This is clearly their window, it's not sustainable indefinitely but they'll be just fine and is the typical ebb and flow of many successful franchises.

He’s on his way to KC for a 6th round pick.

Something is better than nothing. Steelers play KC week 16 I believe.

Smith to the Packers.

Looks like Cleveland can have him now as the Packers have released him today.

He played a total of 27 snaps with the Packers.

Those aren't good options. If they extend dead money to the future, it makes it more costly in the future. If they cut high priced players, they can't afford to replace them with the same quality or quality any where near that as they have no draft picks. They can keep restructuring but doing that just makes it worse and makes a bigger hole to dig out of, specifically if they keep trading draft picks.

Right now they are ~$3 million over cap but remember they can't afford to sign anyone who's contract is expiring and deserves a raise. They shouldn't restructure deals they just restructured this year. Managing the cap like they have done and trading draft picks away is setting them up to have a lot of down years and the longer they try to extend the window past this year, the longer it will take to rebuild the team.

They’re following the Saints model. Permanently pushing it off to the future, though trading all their picks gives it an extra degree of difficulty.

Also have to account for the assumption that the cap goes up each year.

Some deals are literally made with the intention to force annual restructures (or a release), and they have players with multiple voidable years specifically for cap purposes. Again, it's not sustainable long term, but they've got a window and they're playing all of their cards.

Ultimately if the team is successful right now, they're making all the right moves - that's the entire point. It's not sustainable, but it's not unusual and they're far from crippled over the next year or two.
