Re: The end of the Peyton Manning Era?

At LEAST one more Superbowl.

Although...with his extension, where's the cap room gonna come from?

Indy is going to have to rely on very good drafts to re-stock the talent/depth cheaply.

I think the division they're in bodes well for their chances of getting into the playoffs every year. No one team really jumps out.

Time to face reality this is a guy with a sub .500 playoff record. 2 SB apperances (The 1 he got his ring being his worst post-season statically of his career) in a 12+ year career. And to top it off this team is on the decline talent wise. Unless the FO manage to restock this team in a draft or two I don't see him ever seeing another AFC Championship game.

Re: The end of the Peyton Manning Era?

hard to say a guy who completed 66% of his passes for 4700 yards and 33 Td's with a revolving door at the skill positions is starting to look human.

The Colts as a team simply are not as good as they have been in the past. It's not about Manning it's about the Colts.

Interesting to see what they do, but he's just as lethal as he always has been.

In the NFL they often say teams have a "window" to get their super bowl. The Colts "window" has past. No disrespect to Peyton, (he is one of my all time favorite players) but his team is aging and will most likely hang around and be respectable for awhile (think Chargers) before starting a new rebuilding session.(Seahawks)

Re: The end of the Peyton Manning Era?

I tend to agree with BK. Losing all those weapons on offense, with a defense that outside of the super bowl championship run has been average at best. The Colts struggle against quality teams, is the bigger problem. His upcoming contract is gonna further limit where and how they can improve. The Colts formula has been the same for a while. It seems to me that the dominate the lesser teams and against the better competition hope that Manning has the ball late in a one score game.

Even in Super Bowl he had them great position to challenge the New Oreleans defense inside the red zone. If Porter played the called defense and not used his instincts Peyton might have 2 SB rings.

Edit: Why is there no option in the Poll to make it to another super bowl but not win it? It's like you have decided that even if he makes it to an AFC Championship game he will lose.

When the Packers lost to the Broncos in Superbowl XXXII and the Dolphins lost to the 49ers in superbowl XIX, that's what they were saying about Favre and Marino. Those guys were in their prime at the time.

Good thing his future success isn't dependent upon random voters on a forum.

Re: The end of the Peyton Manning Era?

Excluding the OP's poll because there is simply no way to predict such a thing, I'll stick to the question of has the Manning Era passed, by asking a question of my own.

If Peyton Manning brings his team in to face yours in whatever state; I'm talking receivers down by injury, leaky offensive line, shaky defense, are you afraid? Even if you are supremely confident in your squad, do you have doubt about the outcome?

For me, it's *ell yes. As long as 18 is around, I don't care if my team is 15-1, #1 in every category, his team has a shot.

No, the Peyton Manning era has not passed. As long as he is healthy and the Colts are playing in the AFC South, they will continue to win the division, and host playoff games. And long as they are in position to go to the playoffs where anything goes, then they have a legitimate shot.
