It feels like the Tatum - Brown duo are destined to be like Shaq and Penny. SMDH

You have the more talented roster and (possibly) the two most talented players (on either side), yet find yourselves in a massive 0-2 hole.

They gotta figure out how to attack Miami's zone defense (they did it in spurts last night), generate some easier looks, and not be so damn passive for long stretches.

Miami is just playing like a team that knows they can out-execute you and Jimmy is playing at an unreal level, right now.

Grant Williams had the most fire and intensity on their team, yet Jimmy was cooking him in the 4th.

Oh, and they need to change up their coverage on the Jimmy pick-and-roll. Go under on the screen and use more drop coverage. Gotta stop switching so he gets a guy he can exploit and force him to beat you from the perimeter.

(I know this is the strategy that Milwaukee used/uses, but they made the mistake of giving up the corner three too often.)

Man he's been nothing short of brilliant. He's another one of those guys it's impossible to rate him in 2k. I don't know anyone that can play with him like he plays in the playoffs.

But I don't think that's the special part here. It's the support he's getting from these other guys.

Duncan Robinson turned it on at the right moment

Martin was super aggressive

Bam was dare I say "baby" Jokic for their offense

Jimmy strikes me as something of a throwback player. That old school player that when it matters most, he wants to prove he is better than you. He's not trying to build a brand or have fun playing ball with his buddies, he's out there to compete.

And maybe thats why he turns it up so well in the playoffs

I honestly find spamming the pick and roll and finding spots/matchups that are favorable to him to operate from actually the furthest thing from a “throwback” player lol. Especially considering most of his passes also feel like they are to three point shooters, and him getting to his spots requires spacing from his teammates but especially so with a guy like Bam at the 5 spot. Other than his midrange shooting most of what he does is very “modern” to todays space and defense. IMO.

I get what you’re saying I guess with his mentality, though I would argue most successful players in any era feel the same way. I don’t know of any good/successful players playing now that lacks that same trait. And not every player with that mindset just magically gets better in the playoffs either, even historically speaking. So that doesn’t really feel “throwback” to me. There are players like you describe, but they aren’t turning into stars and winning either.

I will say his improvement feels large though. These past few years from him the regular season to playoff boom is decently substantial. Only player I can think of that seems like a legit comparison is Reggie Miller. Many great and even all-time great players are actually a bit worse or neutral come postseason time, most that can reach that “next level” by comparison are so good in the regular season as well that they are MVP tier. It’s rare to see a good player turn superstar almost expectedly when the stakes get higher.
