FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEALDSTONE FC CONFIRMS DREW WELCH WILL REMAIN AS MANAGER

RUISLIP, LONDON - Wealdstone FC is pleased to confirm that Drew Welch will remain as manager of the club following AFC Wimbledon's hiring of Glyn Hodges as their new manager.

The media had been speculating about the possibility of Welch leaving Wealdstone to take up the position at AFC Wimbledon, but Welch has always been focused on his role at the club and fulfilling his contract through the 2024/25 season.

Wealdstone FC Chairman, Rory Fitzgerald, said: "We are delighted that Drew Welch will remain as manager of our club. Drew has done an excellent job this season, and we are thrilled to have him continue leading our team forward."

Welch has had a successful season with Wealdstone, winning the National League Manager of the Month for December and leading the team to the top of the National League table. The club looks set for a promotion push to League Two, and Welch's commitment to the club is an important factor in the team's continued success.

Welch said: "I am happy to be staying at Wealdstone and continuing to build on the success we have achieved so far this season. We have a fantastic group of players, staff, and fans who have all contributed to our progress, and I'm excited about what the future holds."

Wealdstone FC would like to thank our fans and supporters for their continued support, and we look forward to the rest of the season under Drew Welch's leadership.

CLUB NEWS

Jacob Russell breaks Wealdstone club shutout record with 23rd clean sheet

Jacob Russell had always dreamed of becoming a professional goalkeeper, but his journey was far from easy. After being released by Crystal Palace, he thought his dreams of playing professional football were over. However, Wealdstone saw potential in the young keeper and signed him last season. His first season as a starter was rocky at best, which caused the club to sign a veteran backup to push the youngster. After a close preseason battle, manager Drew Welch stuck with the youngster.

As the season progressed, Russell's confidence grew, and his performances in goal for Wealdstone became more and more impressive. His talent was finally recognized when he broke the club shutout record that was previously held by Harry Isted.

Russell's 23rd shutout came in the victory over Wrexham, and it was a moment he would never forget. The fans were on their feet, cheering and applauding, as the young keeper made save after save to secure the shutout. The final whistle blew, and the team celebrated their victory, but Russell's achievement was the highlight of the day.

Reflecting on his record-breaking performance, Russell said, "It's an amazing feeling to break the club shutout record. I couldn't have done it without the support of my teammates and the fans. I'm proud of what we've accomplished as a team, and I'm excited for what the future holds."

Russell's stats speak for themselves, with an impressive 23 shutouts this season and an average of only 0.55 goals allowed per 90 minutes. His hard work and dedication have paid off, and he has become a vital part of the Wealdstone team.

As he continues to improve and grow as a player, there's no doubt that Jacob Russell has a bright future ahead of him. He has proven that with hard work and determination, dreams can become a reality.

Stars of the Month

#1 - ST Andrew Dallas -- 5+1 apps, 3 goals, 2 assists, 1.80 xG, 7.18 rating

#3 - MF Casey Petit -- 4 apps, 1 assist, 7.15 rating

League Table

January has been a bit of a mixed bag for us at Wealdstone. We started the month strong with a 1-0 victory over S****horpe at home, thanks to a late goal from Danny Parish. It was great to start the year off with a win, and I felt confident going into our next match against Tranmere.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to secure a win against Tranmere and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Andrew Dallas scored a goal for us in the 40th minute, but we weren't able to capitalize on any other opportunities. It was frustrating to not come away with a win, but we had to keep moving forward.

Our next match at home against Southport was a disappointment, as we lost 0-2. We struggled to get anything going on offense and had a few lapses in defense that cost us the game. I knew we had to regroup and focus on our next match against Billericay.

And regroup we did. We came away with a 3-0 victory over Billericay, with Alfie Matthews scoring two goals and Andrew Dallas adding another. It was great to see our offense firing on all cylinders and our defense holding strong for a clean sheet.

Our next match was a scoreless draw against Bromley at home. While it's always disappointing to not come away with a win, I was proud of our defensive effort and the way we fought until the end.

One bright spot in January was goalkeeper Jacob Russell breaking the club shutout record previously held by Harry Isted. Russell collected his 23rd shutout in our victory over Wrexham, and it's a testament to his hard work and dedication.

Overall, while January had its ups and downs, I feel good about where we're at as a team. We're still sitting atop the National League table, and I know we have what it takes to win the league. We just need to keep grinding and focus on playing our best football every game.

Wealdstone FC stays in the hunt for promotion despite mixed results in February

Wealdstone FC had a mixed month of February, with a defeat to Guiseley and a draw against Ebbsfleet, but managed to secure a crucial 1-0 victory over Boreham Wood. Andrew Dallas was the star player for the team, scoring two important goals. Despite the results, Wealdstone remains second in the National League table, just two points behind Yeovil.

Wealdstone midfielder Alex Dyer to leave club for Kuwait SC at end of the season

Wealdstone FC will say goodbye to one of their key midfielders at the end of the season. Alex Dyer, who has made 180 league appearances and scored 26 goals across two stints with the club, will leave to join Kuwait SC. The 32-year-old Montserrat international has signed a one-year contract with the Kuwaiti team worth $178,000.

Drew Welch, the manager of Wealdstone FC, expressed sadness at Dyer's departure but acknowledged that the club was unable to match the offer that Kuwait SC had put on the table. Welch told the media that he could not blame the midfielder for accepting the contract and moving on to a new challenge.

Dyer has had an impressive career thus far, with 369 appearances and 56 goals to his name. This season, he has made 29 appearances for Wealdstone, scoring two goals and providing two assists, with an average match rating of 6.76.

The team will undoubtedly feel Dyer's departure, as he has been a consistent performer in the midfield over the years. However, Wealdstone will now have the opportunity to look for new talent and fill the gap left by Dyer's departure.

The midfielder has been an important figure for Wealdstone, having made significant contributions during his time with the club. He will be remembered for his hard work, dedication, and leadership on and off the pitch.

As Dyer prepares to embark on a new chapter of his career, Wealdstone FC will undoubtedly wish him all the best and thank him for his invaluable contributions to the club over the years.

Stars of the Month

#1 - ST Andrew Dallas -- 3 apps, 2 goals, 1.20 xG, 7.37 match rating
#2 - GK Jacob Russell -- 3 apps, 14 saves, 3 goals conceded, 2.58 xGA, 7.03 match rating
#3 - CB Hugh Ferris -- 2+1 apps, 11 headers won, 7 interceptions, 6.9 match rating

February has been a month of mixed emotions for Wealdstone. On one hand, we had some decent results and remained in second place in the National League. On the other hand, we suffered a disappointing loss to Guiseley and received news of Alex Dyer's departure at the end of the season.

The postponement of the Stockport match due to a waterlogged pitch was frustrating, especially since it led to a 17-day break for the team. Unfortunately, that break seemed to cause us to come out extremely flat in our subsequent match against Guiseley, which ended in a 0-2 loss. It's disappointing to have dropped points like that, but I hope it serves as a wake-up call for the team.

The draw against Ebbsfleet was a decent result, but the highlight of the month was the 1-0 victory over Boreham Wood. Andrew Dallas came through with a crucial goal in the 69th minute to secure the three points.

The news of Alex Dyer's departure is a blow, but I can't blame him for accepting a one-year, $178,000 contract with Kuwait SC. We simply couldn't match that kind of offer, and Alex has been an integral part of our squad in both of his stints with the club. Losing him is going to be tough, but we'll have to find a way to move forward without him.

March is going to be a crucial month for us with six matches scheduled, including the rescheduled match against Stockport. It's going to test the depth of our club, but I'm confident that we have the talent and determination to come through it. It's going to require a team effort, and we'll have to be ready to fight for every point.

CLUB NEWS

March was a month of mixed results for Wealdstone FC. Despite some ups and downs, the team showed resilience and grit throughout the month.

On March 4th, Wealdstone took on Sutton and secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory. After falling behind early because of a 17th-minute strike by Coby Rowe, Casey Pettit evened up the match in the 32nd minute, while Andrew Dallas sealed the win with a goal in the 78th minute.

However, the team suffered a setback on March 7th when they fell 0-1 to Stockport. The match was closely contested, but ultimately a late goal in the 66th minute by Claudio Ofosu sealed the defeat.

On March 11th, Wealdstone played Fylde to a 1-1 draw. Alfie Matthews got Wealdstone on the board early, scoring in the 8th minute. Fylde was able to draw even with a Matt Stenson strike in the 69th minute. Despite numerous chances throughout the match, the team was unable to find a winning goal.

Wealdstone bounced back with a crucial 2-1 home victory over Torquay on March 21st. Matthews once again found the back of the net, this time in the 14th minute. Kai Garande added a second goal in the 68th minute. Torquay was able to claw one back in the 73rd minute thanks to Josh Umerah, but the Stones were able to hang on for the important three points.

The team wrapped up the month with a 0-0 draw against Chesterfield on March 28th. Despite not finding the back of the net, the team put in a strong defensive performance to earn a valuable point.

As we head into April, Wealdstone currently sits in 4th place in the National League table with 73 points. The team has a tough road ahead, with six matches scheduled for the final month. However, with the talent and determination shown by the squad in March, we can be confident in their ability to compete at a high level.

We want to give a special shoutout to Alfie Matthews, who had an outstanding month with two goals and one assist. Let's continue to support the team as we push towards our goals for the season.

Come on you Stones!

Wealdstone FC Announces Contract Extension for Center Back Hugh Ferris

Wealdstone FC has announced that 18-year-old Scottish center-back Hugh Ferris has signed a three-year contract extension with the club. The deal is worth $55.5k and comes after Ferris impressed during his first year with the team.

Ferris joined Wealdstone from Ross County on a two-year deal last summer, but his performances in the first team have exceeded expectations. In 35 appearances across all competitions, Ferris has scored one goal and earned an average match rating of 7.06.

Manager Drew Welch spoke highly of Ferris, stating, "Hugh has been an important player for us this season, and we're thrilled to have him commit his future to Wealdstone. He's shown great maturity and composure on the field, and he's become a key player in our defense. I'm excited to see him continue to develop with us."

Ferris was equally excited about the extension, saying, "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract with Wealdstone. It's been a great first season for me, and I feel like I'm improving every day under the guidance of the coaching staff and my teammates. I'm excited to continue working hard and contributing to the team's success."

With this contract extension, Wealdstone has secured the services of one of its promising young talents for the next three years. Fans can expect to see Ferris continue to grow and develop as a player in the years to come.

Stars of the Month

#1 MF Brad Spencer (4 appearances, 0.16 xG, 92.6% pass accuracy, 20 tackles, 7.10 match rating)
#2 MF Casey Petit (4 appearances, 1 goal, 0.16 xG, 93.9% pass accuracy, 6 tackles, 7.00 match rating)
#3 WB Kai Garande (4 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist, 0.12 xG, 87.2% pass accuracy, 3 tackles, 6.95 match rating)

It's been a month of ups and downs for Wealdstone. We started off March strong with a win against Sutton, thanks to goals from Casey Pettit and Andrew Dallas. Unfortunately, we lost the rescheduled match against Stockport. It was just one of those matches where we absolutely were not clinical. 17 shots, but only four on target, and their keeper saved them all.

We bounced back with a draw against Fylde, with Alfie Matthews scoring an early goal. Then, we secured a crucial win against Torquay with goals from Matthews and Kai Garande. And finally, we managed a hard-fought draw against Chesterfield, keeping a clean sheet thanks to some solid defending.

Brad Spencer was outstanding this month, with his passing accuracy and tackles helping us control the midfield. Casey Pettit was also impressive, scoring a crucial goal and maintaining a high passing accuracy. And Kai Garande's goal and assist helped us secure the win against Torquay.

We're still in a strong position in the league, currently sitting in fourth place with 73 points. Bromley was in 5th place five matches ago, but they now find themselves in first place. This competition is tough, and the next few matches will really test our depth and resolve. We need to stay focused and work hard to secure as many points as possible to keep our title and/or playoff hopes alive.

CLUB NEWS

Wealdstone's season came to an end with a mix of results in the month of April, as they battled through the final stretch of the campaign and secured a spot in the National League playoffs.

April started on a positive note with a convincing 2-0 victory against Altrincham, showcasing the team's attacking prowess. Michee Efete and Alfie Matthews found the back of the net to secure an important three points.

However, the following matches presented some challenges for Wealdstone. They faced a tough 0-2 defeat against Yeovil and suffered a narrow 0-1 loss to York, effectively ending the club's title aspirations. The team fought hard but couldn't quite find the breakthrough in these tightly contested encounters.

Resilience was the key in the away fixture against Aldershot, as Wealdstone secured a crucial 1-0 victory. Alfie Matthews stepped up once again, scoring the decisive goal that officially clinched Wealdstone's playoff spot.

A hard-fought 1-1 draw against Eastleigh followed, with Jayden Davis contributing an early goal to ensure a share of the points. It was a match that highlighted the team's determination and ability to compete until the final whistle.

The final game of the season against Solihull Moors was a true test of character for Wealdstone. With playoff seeding on the line, they displayed great resilience and clinched a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Bayli Spencer-Adams. With Yeovil Town also winning on the day, Wealdstone clinched the 4th seed in the promotion playoffs.

In the end, Wealdstone finished the season in a respectable fifth place in the National League table. Tranmere claimed the top spot, closely followed by S****horpe and Bromley. Wealdstone, Solihull Moors, and York all secured playoff berths, showcasing their resilience and determination throughout the season.

As the playoffs approach, Wealdstone will have an opportunity to continue their journey toward promotion. It has been a season of ups and downs, but the team has shown great potential and will look to build upon this foundation. With their fighting spirit and determination, Wealdstone aims to make their mark in the playoffs and pursue their promotion aspirations.

The club and fans can be proud of the team's efforts throughout the season and will continue to support them as they embark on this exciting playoff journey. The stage is set, and Wealdstone will give their all in pursuit of their promotion dreams.

Tranmere Rovers Claim National League Title in Dramatic Finish

The National League came to an exhilarating conclusion as Tranmere Rovers secured the league title on goal differential, sealing immediate promotion after an impressive campaign. Their remarkable run of 16 matches without a loss propelled them to the top, bouncing back from last season's relegation from League Two.

S****horpe United, on a scintillating six-game winning streak, made a valiant push for the title. However, despite their strong finish, they couldn't capitalize on Tranmere's final four matches and fell short of the coveted top spot. Tranmere's advantage in goal differential proved to be the decisive factor in their title triumph.

Bromley, leading the pack as late as Match Day 44, suffered a heartbreaking blow to their title aspirations in a crucial 2-1 loss to Solihull Moors on the penultimate match day. Despite their exceptional campaign, Bromley finished just one point behind Tranmere and S****horpe, settling for a commendable third-place finish.

Yeovil Town, once sitting at the summit of the table, saw their dreams of lifting the title fade away as they stumbled in the final stretch. The team's inability to secure a victory in their last three matches dropped them to a fourth-place finish, leaving them with a bittersweet end to an otherwise promising season.

Wealdstone's season proved to be a rollercoaster ride, with their form fluctuating over the final two months. After battling for the top spot with Yeovil Town throughout January and February, Wealdstone's inconsistency relegated them to a fifth-place finish. Nonetheless, they showcased moments of brilliance and resilience throughout the campaign.

The competitiveness and unpredictability of the National League were on full display this season, captivating fans with thrilling matches and compelling storylines. The fight for promotion was fierce, and the final league table reflects the immense effort and determination of the teams involved.

As Tranmere Rovers celebrate their well-deserved triumph, they will now turn their attention to the challenges that lie ahead in League Two. Meanwhile, S****horpe United, Bromley, Yeovil Town, Wealdstone, Solihull Moors, and York City can take pride in their achievements and look ahead to the playoffs with renewed determination.

The National League has once again proven to be a captivating and unforgiving competition, showcasing the relentless pursuit of success by its participating teams. Congratulations to Tranmere Rovers on their title triumph, and best of luck to all the clubs as they embark on the next chapter of their footballing journeys.

Solihull Moors Prevail Over Wealdstone in National League Playoff Clash

Grosvenor Vale, Ruislip - In a highly anticipated National League Playoff first-round encounter, Wealdstone faced off against Solihull Moors on a rainy evening at their home ground. Despite a valiant effort, Wealdstone succumbed to a 3-1 defeat, ending their playoff aspirations for the season.

From the opening whistle, Solihull Moors displayed their intent, seizing control of the game early on. Striker Stefan Payne found the back of the net in the 10th minute, capitalizing on a well-crafted attack to give his side an early advantage.

Wealdstone fought back, displaying resilience and determination throughout the match. Despite some promising attacking moves, the home side struggled to break down Solihull Moors' resolute defense. The visitors' Stephen Walker extended their lead in the 79th minute, followed swiftly by Ethan Dekel-Daks, who added a third just a minute later.

As the game approached its conclusion, Wealdstone managed to pull a goal back through Michee Efete in the 88th minute. However, it proved to be a mere consolation as Solihull Moors secured their place in the next round of the playoffs.

Reflecting on the match, Wealdstone manager Drew Welch acknowledged Solihull Moors' superiority, stating, "Credit to Solihull Moors, they were clinical in front of goal and capitalized on their opportunities. We fought hard, but we couldn't find the breakthrough we needed."

Welch also commended his team's efforts, saying, "I'm proud of the way the lads battled until the very end. We gave it our all, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough on the night. We'll regroup, learn from this experience, and come back stronger next season."

Despite the disappointment, Wealdstone exhibited promising statistics, registering 16 shots, with 6 on target. Their relentless attacking intent was evident throughout the match, but Solihull Moors' defense proved challenging to breach. Wealdstone maintained possession for 52% of the game and completed an impressive 85% of their passes.

The match saw spirited performances from several Wealdstone players, with midfielder Brad Spencer standing out despite receiving a yellow card early on. However, Solihull Moors' defensive solidity and clinical finishing proved too much to overcome.

As the season draws to a close, Wealdstone will now shift their focus to regrouping and preparing for the challenges of the next campaign, determined to come back stronger and chase their promotion dreams once again.

A message from the desk of Drew Welch

As the final whistle blew on our season, I find myself sitting here, contemplating the highs and lows, the successes and challenges that defined our journey. It has been a season of ups and downs, filled with moments of joy, disappointment, and valuable lessons.

When I think back to our campaign, there were moments that truly showcased our potential. We started the season with determination, setting our sights on promotion from the National League. The team showed great character and resilience, especially during our impressive first half of the season.

However, as the season progressed, we encountered hurdles that tested our resolve. Inconsistencies crept into our performances, and we struggled to maintain the same level of form. The injuries and fatigue took their toll on the squad, and we faced challenges in maintaining momentum.

Ultimately, we finished the season in fifth place, falling short of our goal of automatic promotion. While it is disappointing not to have achieved that objective, I am proud of the team's efforts. We fought until the very end, never losing sight of our determination to succeed.

Looking back, it's important to acknowledge the growth and development we witnessed within our squad. We have seen players rise to the occasion, displaying their potential and contributing significantly to our successes. From the leadership of experienced figures like Josh Meekings, Michee Efete, and Alex Dyer to the emergence of young talents such as Hugh Ferris, our team has evolved and demonstrated great potential.

I would like to express my gratitude to every member of the squad, the coaching staff, and the loyal fans who stood by us throughout the season. Their unwavering support and dedication have been a constant source of motivation for the team. We have experienced the highs of victory together and endured the lows as a united front.

As we enter the offseason, it is crucial to take this time for reflection, self-assessment, and planning for the future. We will analyze our performances, identify areas for improvement, and set new goals for the upcoming season. It is a chance for us to learn from our experiences, strengthen our weaknesses, and build upon our strengths.

I firmly believe that the challenges we faced this season will only make us stronger. We will regroup, refine our strategies, and work tirelessly to come back stronger next season. The goal remains the same - to achieve promotion and take this club to new heights.

It is with determination and renewed focus that I sign off this season, knowing that brighter days lie ahead. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence and make our mark on the footballing world.

Onward and upward,

A Season's Reflection and the Pursuit of Progress

Drew Welch sat in his office, the weight of the past season resting heavily on his shoulders. It was time to review the campaign, learn from the team's successes and shortcomings, and strategize for the future. Welch was looking at his planner. Today was the exit meeting with his trusted colleagues: Stuart Maynard, his assistant manager; Michael Shaw, the general manager; and Rory Fitzgerald, the president of Wealdstone FC.

Gathered in the conference room, the atmosphere was tinged with a mix of contemplation and anticipation. Mr. Fitzgerald, known for his passion and dedication to the club, began the discussion.

"Gentlemen, thank you for joining me today," Mr. Fitzgerald said, his voice resonating with a sense of purpose. "I want to start off by saying I know you gentlemen are disappointed with how the season ended, but in my eyes, it was ultimately a success. We finished the season in the black, thanks in no small part to the record-breaking gate we had for the playoff match we got to host. The good news is we should be in a much better position next season to support the club financially. That's pretty much all I have for now, so I turn the floor over to Drew."

Drew was happy to hear that their success on the pitch led to success on the balance sheet. That's always a plus. Drew cleared his throat. Why was he always more nervous with these meetings than any pre-match pep talk?

"Let's reflect on the season and set our sights on our ultimate goal: securing promotion through the playoffs next year," Drew said. What are your thoughts on how we can achieve that?"

Stuart Maynard, his right-hand man, nodded thoughtfully. "Consistency will be key," he chimed in. "We must build on our successes and address the areas where we fell short. We've seen glimpses of brilliance, but we need to maintain that level throughout the entire campaign."

Michael Shaw, the astute strategist, added, "I agree, Stuart. Now, Drew, which players do you believe we should prioritize for contract extensions?"

Drew paused, contemplating their contributions. "Michee Efete, Josh Meekings, and Casey Petit," he replied resolutely. "They have been instrumental this season, and their commitment and talent have proven invaluable. We must secure their futures with the club."

Rory Fitzgerald, the president, leaned forward. "I fully support extending their contracts. They embody the spirit of Wealdstone FC and have played crucial roles in our achievements. We need to build around them. By the way Michael, where are we in negotiations with Jacob?"

A heavy sigh came from Michael's mouth. Drew was preparing for the bad news that he suspected was coming. "Unfortunately sir, unless something changes at the last minute, we may have to accept the fact that he is leaving on a free transfer," said Shaw with a tinge of disappointment in his voice. "We are simply too far apart. We have been since we opened up negotiations earlier in the season. He's just not willing to budge off of his wage demands. I honestly think he's looking to play at a higher level."

Drew nodded, realizing that the business side sometimes rears its ugly head. But another matter weighed heavily on his mind. "There's something I need to address," he began, his tone filled with determination. "I feel like I hurt the team last year by not playing Alfie Matthews together with Andrew Dallas and Danny Parish more. I should've played him as the #10 the whole time. I know Crystal Palace wanted him to play as a striker to aid his development, but I believe it hindered our attack. I'm no longer going to let a bigger club dictate our team selection."

Michael Shaw interjected, understanding the frustration in Drew's voice. "We'll learn from this experience," he reassured. "We need to find a more permanent solution in the #10 role, someone who aligns with our style of play and can bring creativity and depth to our attack."

Drew's eyes gleamed with renewed determination. "Exactly, Michael. It's an area we must prioritize in our recruitment efforts. We need to find the right player to bolster our attacking capabilities and support the team."

Rory Fitzgerald, sensing the fire within Drew, leaned forward. "I have full confidence in our team and our ability to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. Together, we will push for the promotion playoffs and bring Wealdstone FC closer to its rightful place."

As the discussion continued, ideas flowed, strategies were outlined, and the group grew more resolute in their pursuit of progress. They made decisions regarding Jacob Russell, agreeing to bring in a suitable replacement to compete with Adam Smith, barring a late hail mary in contract talks.

With their goals set, the team left the conference room, each member eager to contribute their part in propelling Wealdstone FC to new heights. The road ahead would be challenging, but their unity, determination, and commitment to the club would guide them.

As the new season approaches, Drew Welch and his team are ready to embrace the challenges, armed with a renewed sense of purpose and the lessons learned from this past season. Wealdstone FC was poised to rise once more, to show the world what they were truly capable of, and to leave an indelible mark on the beautiful game.

Club Memorandum

* Per discussions, the board has approved an increase of the payroll budget by $270k to $939k to aid in finding more permanent solutions to augment the first team. We currently have $277k in committed spending for next season.

* The board has approved a transfer budget of $23k, an increase of $2k compared to last season. We still feel that the club is better suited to scouring for players out of contract, however, management does have the ability to transfer funds from payroll to augment the transfer funds available.

*Our vision for this club is to continue to push for promotion via the promotion playoffs. However, we were very excited by our title challenge last season.
