Re: Unified Boxing Federation (Glory Days Boxing)

I just finished the Saturday Night Card for April and it did not disappoint. Some interesting fights.

However, before posting the results I'm going to put together a Thursday Night Card, complete it and post the results.

Going forward, I will do the Thursday Night Card first and post its results before completing the Saturday Night Card.

April 2001 Thursday Night Results

Farmer Smith defeats Leon Spinks by Majority Decision
Judges: 58-56, 57-56, 57-57
In a stunning result, Spinks loses to Farmer. Spinks hit the canvas in round 2 and could never make up the difference. Spinks announced his retirement from boxing from ringside, immediately following the loss. "Clearly, it is time," he said. Spinks finishes his UBF career with a 1-4-0 record with his lone win coming by knockout.

The UBF announced that the Italian born Dino Dennis has replaced Spinks, Dennis will enter the Top 40 Rankings at #31.

Chris Arreola defeats Gus Berger by KO at 2:54 of Round 1
Arreola had no trouble taking care of Berger. Punches landed: 19-8 in favor of Arreola.

Frank Childs defeats Noodles Hass by Unanimous Decision
Judges: 59-56, 60-55, 58-56
Childs, with the easy decision, landed 73 punches to 33 for Noodles.

Anthony Joshua defeats James Anson by TKO at 2:12 of Round 4
Joshua was dominating before a gash opened up above Anson's left eye causing the stoppage.

Henry Cooper defeats Frankie Page by KO at 1:32 of Round 6
Cooper cruised in this one, apparently winning every round before delivering the decisive right that put Page to sleep.

George Chuvalo defeats Cyclone Burns by KO in Round 2
A 29 -4 advantage in punches landed for Chuvalo tells you all you need to know,

April 2001 Saturday Night Results

Max Schmeling defeats Bryant Jennings by KO at 0:26 of Round 6
Schmeling dominated this one from the start and wound up landing 77 punches to just 26 for Jennings. The 6th round knockout was a mercy killing.

Note: Jennings opted not to retire at 0-3-1.

John Ruiz defeats Luther McCarty by Majority Decision
Judges: 95-91, 93-93, 94-93
McCarty hit the canvas in 3 consecutive rounds (2nd-4th) making the majority decision all that much more shocking. Ruiz also went down, in round 6, and won the punches landed total 80-72.

Buster Douglas defeats Bob Satterfield by TKO at 2:51 of Round 2
Douglas surprised even himself stopping Satterfield moments after scoring a flash knock down on him. For Buster, it is his first win in the UBF.

David Tua defeats Donovan Ruddock by TKO at 1:14 of Round 1
Tua demonstrated for all the world that he has become a top contender as he stopped the previously unbeaten "Razor" Ruddock in the second minute of the opening round. Tua is quickly climbing the UBF rankings.

Gene Tunney defeats James Jeffries by TKO at 0:31 of Round 7
In a shocking development, the night's main event was stopped early in the 7th round as the ringside doctor said that the former heavyweight champion could not continue due to a badly swollen left eye. By all accounts, Jeffries was up on all scorecards and he had scored a 4th round knock down of Tunney while landing 76 punches to Tunney's 49.

Note: Through 6 rounds, Jeffries was up on all 3 cards: 59-55, 60-55, 59-55.

May 2001 UBF Thursday Night Fights Results

Gene Tunney defeats Irish Billy McManus by KO at 1:07 of Round 6
Tunney landed 78 punches to McManus' 18 but he couldn't knock him down or put him away until the 6th round. Tunney is now 6-0-0 (4).

Donovan Ruddock defeats Gunner Modell by KO at 1:56 of Round 3
In a bizarre fight Ruddock knocked Modell down in the 1st and 3rd rounds before knocking him out at 1:56 of round 3. Modell scored 2 knockdowns of Ruddock himself, both in the 2nd round, and actually led 18-17 through 2 rounds.

Bob Satterfield defeats Hurricane Shida by Unanimous Decision
Judges: 59-53, 58-55, 60-53
The only thing missing from Satterfield's arsenal was the knockout punch. The Bombardier landed 59 punches to just 21 for Shida and that included a 1st round knock down of Hurricane but the fight went the distance.

David Tua defeats Granville Lloyd by KO at 2:57 of Round 2
Tua fought a cautious 1st round, feeling Lloyd out, before exploding for a vicious knock out late in the 2nd round. Tua is now 5-0-0 (4).

Buster Douglas defeats Victor Layton by KO at 1:04 of Round 4
Douglas made a mockery of Layton, landing 54 punches to his opponent's 7 before finishing him in the 4th round. Douglas has won 2 straight since the media questioned him about the possibility of retirement after he lost a unanimous decision to Max Baer in December.

Re: Unified Boxing Federation (Glory Days Boxing)

In June, the UBF will have 15 fights. 5 on Tuesday night, 5 on Thursday night and 5 on Saturday night. Tuesday and Thursday will be unranked fights and it will drastically decrease the backlog of these fights remaining.

In fact, there'll only be 3 left in the queue (plus any that are added after June's fights) so Thursdays will get very quiet going forward for the most part.

I have completed May and am ready to post results but I'm going to go to Office Depot and have them print and cut (on 130# card stock to match the other cards) my Tomato Can set first.

May was wild to say the least. Stay tuned.

Re: Unified Boxing Federation (Glory Days Boxing)

May 2001 Saturday Night Fights Results

Tommy Burns defeats Mike Tyson by KO at 0:45 of Round 5
Burns was knocked down in the 3rd and 4th rounds but recovered and wound up shocking the crowd in attendance with a 5th round knockout of Tyson. Burns landed 44 punches to Tyson's 32 but was surely behind on the scorecards due to the knockdowns he endured.

Note: I cursed. I cursed A LOT at the conclusion of the fight and had a few more outbursts for about 10 minutes after.

Jerry Quarry defeats Dino Dennis by KO at 1:46 of Round 5
Early in the 5th, Quarry had a nasty gash opened above his left eye but he was able to continue fighting and quickly took out Dennis in Dino's debut. Quarry controlled the match from the outset, landing 69 punches to Dennis' 27.

Ossie Ocasio defeats Jim Flynn by KO at 0:20 of Round 1
If you blinked, you missed it. Ocasio dropped Flynn with just 2 punches and referee Mills Lane called the fight after a 10 count. Flynn is winless in 2 fights since beginning his UBF career.

Rocky Marciano defeats Ken Norton by TKO at 0:37 0f Round 3
Both fighters hit the canvas in the opening round as the heavy punches flew early and often. Norton wound up going down in each of the three rounds with a flurry of punches by Marciano following the 3rd knock down of Norton causing referee Ruby Goldstein to call the fight. CompuBox scored the punches landed 31-30 in favor of the victor.

Title Fight: Joe Frazier defeats Cleveland Williams by Unanimous Decision
Judges: Rudy Ortega 115-110, John Keane 114-113, David Mendoza 114-111
Frazier has taken a lot of criticism for a perceived "ducking" of top contenders since he won the belt last August. However, Big Cat Williams proved himself a formidable opponent scoring two knock downs of the champ, including one early in the 12th round. Frazier was only able to drop Williams once, in the 4th round, but scored big on CompuBox by landing 60 more punches than his opponent (133-73).

I would have done the Tyson fight over if I was you, lol. I would have been pissed and likely flipped the table over haha.

I feel sorry for Jimmy Robinson.
