Idrottsföreningen Elfsborg, more commonly known as IF Elfsborg or simply Elfsborg, is a professional football club based in Borås, Sweden. Founded on June 26, 1904, Elfsborg has a legacy of success, dedicated fans, and a vibrant stadium, making it a powerhouse in Swedish football.
The club, affectionately known as "The Yellow Ones" or "The Elegants", has spent most of its history in the top tier of Swedish football, the Allsvenskan. Their home ground is the Borås Arena, where they have played since April 17, 2005.
Elfsborg was founded by a group of 19 youngsters, all aged 14-15 years old. The main protagonist in the formation, Carl Larson, who in addition to football also practiced athletics and wrestling, claimed the reason was that the main sports club in the city, Borås Athletic and Sports Society, would not exert football in their program.
The club's colors, yellow and black, are taken from Älvsborg Regiment. Elfsborg represents not only a city but a whole region. A recurring motto of the club is "Vi Tillsammans" (We together).
Elfsborg has repeatedly participated in the qualifier to Champions League, Europa League and was as late as 2007 in 2007–08 UEFA Cup. The club has won six national championships, the latest in 2012, and three national cups.
