Hammerhunker: If you want to Download the Complete Edition of NFL Challenge, Go to the link above or go to https://www.myabandonware.com/game/nfl-challenge-68 and maybe if you want to create multiple teams from Scratch I'm planning to give a Surprise later after I complete work on the Next Add-On Pack.

zonecadet: Run 'n' Shoot wasn't used on XOR's NFL Challenge however the Closest if you want to do it you can you use the Yellow Group (Group #5) for the Manual and Playbook go to: https://videofootballleague.com/docs/nflchal.pdf

However zonecadet is uploading the 1985 USFL Season for the Upcoming Add-On Pack and maybe I'm expecting to create the 1983 USFL Season from scratch with teams from the 1983 CFL Season, so it will be up as we go along in the future.

I only ever play the game AI vs AI and have been able to approximate the Run and Shoot by having no TE's on the roster and playing WRs at those spots. You also have to put a WR at FB and run the game in advanced coaching mode. As long as the HB is rated higher in RUN skill than the WR (at FB) he will get the carries while the WR (at FB) will catch passes as the FB is targeted way more than HB in NFL CHallenge.

The key to creating teams is the total S Pts a player has compared to others at the same position. S pts is the total of a player's skill points (RUN, REC, BLK, PASS and KICK) If a bench player has more S pts than a starter, the starter will not come back if injured. Look at the 84 Browns squad. Starter, 2nd year man Boyce Green (HB), has 226 S Pts but bench player Earnest Byner has 233. If Green goes out injured, his lower S pts will keep him off the field. Green started 10 games that season, Byner only 3.

That's a Great Idea!

Re: Keeping XOR's NFL Challenge Alive with Something Really Nice!

It's a close as we can get to Run and Shoot or even the modern Spread type Offenses. Mind you I never bother with the NFL teams. Along with a couple of long-time NFL Challenge devotees I've learnt to alter the Curves file to suit, although the effect is limited in some of the curves. For instance, the game limits any QB run, and they only run as a result of a blitz, to 20yds. I cannot get that to increase in any way. Yet , I have altered the long runs and receptions to allow a slightly higher probability of long gains occuring for RBs and WRs/TEs. I'm currently running the 1963 AFL season and for that I altered the Field Goal curve to a)limit the distance for the longest field goal attempt and b) decrease the number of field goals attempted. Back in the early 60s kickers were not specialists and a 50% success rate was an all star!! They also didn't kick 55 yarders regularly on account of, often, very poor field conditions. Still learning, still working to tweak the game as best I can. For the 1963 AFL we removed all Dime Defenses and any Offensive play that had the WR3 featured (not many) owing to the fact the Rosters are so small back then. It helps. As far as I know the USFL Rosters were limited to about 40 so my squads reflect that.

@Zonecadet: Nice Idea so would you like to share any seasons that you want to add so I can send it to you for the Next Add-On Pack?

Sure thing, I have no idea how but yeah. I still got a lot of work to do on my USFL 1985 teams to get them back into opening day shape AND I have to create .ros files for each team, never did them originally as I kept track of rosters and injuries and stats in a spreadsheet.

That's a Good Idea if you upload this, I'm going to work on the 1983 USFL and the CFL Season all being merged into One File.

Re: Keeping XOR's NFL Challenge Alive with Something Really Nice!

Thought I'd update anyone interested. I'm working my way through the 1985 USFL teams and re-formatting them and trying to get the optimum starters for each team in place. About 1/3 of the way there. I'll be limiting the teams to 42 'active' players plus up to 10 'development' or reserve players. Once I'm done I'll upload a .zip file with all you need to run the game/season plus copious notes on how I run a season and factor in injuries and substitutions to cover injured players. Will also include a season summary for the league and each individual team.
