MLB Power Pros baserunning woes

Ok, the CPU seems to be making a lot of stupid decisions on its own even though I'm using manual baserunning, and I'm wondering if it's due to the controller. For instance, let's say I hit a low line drive that, to a human, looks almost like a grounder and clearly won't be caught. When my runners see this they run back to the base! ARRRRRRGH! And this is with manual baserunning. What's the point of having a "runners stop" control if the CPU is sending your runners back to the bag before you can even think about it?

Also, I've had a number of times where my runners decided to hesitate, even though I had already told them to run through the base. This has cost me several runs already when I needed my runner to be sprinting to home plate.

My only hope is that these glitches are due to something with the controller setup that I'm not aware of (like the d-pad glitching and pressing right or something). I'll switch back to the classic controller for now just to see.

i got caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd.
ran back and forth about 5 times.
seemed liked i could do this forever if i wanted to.
finally, the AI made a throwing error, and i got 2 2nd safely.
