Mario Baseball!

Is anyone else looking forward to this game? I didn't even know about it till I read about it in Gamepro. Screenshots look good, I just wonder if there will be enough characters for enough teams, hopefully around 9-10 teams.

Re: Mario Baseball!

I got this game this week. I've only gotten to play it 3 or 4 times, but it is pretty fun. If you liked Mario Tennis, it is really similar in style.

The season type mode is called "Challenge Mode." What you do is you get to pick a team captain (the ones available at first that I can remember were Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, or Donkey Kong). I picked Mario. Then you are given a team of nine, but for me, I only got one big player, that was Luigi. If you picked Peach, I think you get Daisy. Yoshi you get Birdo, Wario you get Waluigi, and I think DK had Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong (not sure though).

The rest of your team is made up of role players. For my Mario team, I had a Monty Mole, 3 Piantas, and 3 little girly looking characters, I think they were called Nokis or something. I think the Yoshis had some Shy-guys on that team and Peach's team had a lot of different Toads. Wario and DK's team have some koopas and goombas and stuff as their role players.

What you do in Challenge mode is play these other teams and as you play them, there are certain challenges or missions during the game that you should complete. By completing different challenges, you give scout flags to the players on the other teams. Once you have enough scout flags for a character (the amount depends on the characters worth) those players can join your team if you beat them.

My team is now made up of lots of players like Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Shy-guys, and more. I probably have 15 players on my team now, so before each game, I have to set my lineup. Each player has certain goals each of them need to accomplish in order to get better, so sometimes that helps determine my lineup. Like I have all of Luigi's accomplishments that are available at the time, so I might not play him in order to let someone like Wario play and meet some of his goals. It's actually a pretty deep game in some aspects.

I haven't beaten DK's team yet, but I think after I do, I player Bowser's team. If I beat Bowser's team, I'll move up to the next level, Flower League or something like that. If you play the Mario sports games, you know they have different levels of complexity you need to complete before moving on (like Mushroom, Flower, Star, etc).

There's plenty of characters to play with to keep it fresh so far, and some stuff to unlock as well. The mini-games are pretty fun. They are fun to play by themselves, but they are also available in the Challenge Mode in order to get coins to buy player upgrades.

There is a Toy Mode that I haven't gotten to play yet, but I imagine it is like the Gimmicks mode in Mario Tennis. That is where you play tennis, but there is goofey stuff going on that makes the games zanier. Not sure if that is how the Toy Mode is or not.

Anyway, I think the game is fun if you like Mario games, which I do.
