There were batting assist levels you could choose from, no assist then 1 to 5 for assist. Timing isn't a good option as you miss out on a lot of the different types of contact. The assist levels though work pretty well.

I bought every one of the games still have them. My favorite and I think the best balanced of all of them was 2010. Yeah I know the game is very customizable just don't want to play very assisted.

Another nice feature is the pitch release. A bad release is more easy to hit. Hitting a homerun on a perfect release is super rare.
