Everyone seems to hate the car I wanna buy.

So I'm think about buying a car in the next 12 months or so (yes, I know about interests rates, leave that aside for this discussion). Nothing fancy, I can't afford fancy :P

I'm casting a wide net. I'm looking at anything from SUV's, to compacts, to sedans etc. #1 on my "dream" list (not really) was a Jeep. Like this one:



Well, according to the Internets (Kelly's Blue Book, US News), they suck

So, anyone here has first hand experience with one of these or similar?

I know they suck at MPG, but if that were the only drawback I might suck it up and go for it, but apparently this isn't the only con.

Help!

I would probably take a Ford Bronco before a Jeep, even if they are only marginally better (IMO).

the good looking Jeep is the Grand Wagoneer and Wrangler. Other than that, if you don't mind possibly going to the shop often to get something fixed, buy what you like. At the end of the day, it your money and you are going to be the one driving it. I personally just don't like the look of 2 door vehicles unless it is a sports car.

The biggest question should be will it fit your needs and possible future needs for the next several years. I'm a truck guy nowadays, but use to be a SUV guy. SUVs cost as much as trucks so I switched over to trucks. Roomy and versatile. Got space for days, I can tow if need be and I can go off road if I want to. So it fits all my needs and possible future needs.

For a different opinion (just to confuse you more!) I've had a Jeep Grand Cherokee since 2017 and have had no problems with it whatsoever. It's been great (yeah, I'm superstitious and am probably jinxing it). I've only needed routine maintenance on it. I heard all about Jeep's terrible reputation prior to buying it but did it anyway and I've been very happy with it.

Prior to that I had a Honda Accord which was supposed to be super reliable and I had nothing but issues with it. It was probably the worst car I've ever owned and I didn't expect it to be that way.

I think just buy the car you want, and if it goes bad on you, well, now you've got a story to talk about at barbecues. The phrase "your mileage may vary" seems overly on-the-nose in this case, so I'll just go with life is short. A mistake on a car you wanted is a nuisance, but not a real problem.

I own two Jeeps, a 2006 Commander (runs great on road and off) and a 2017 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Both are excellent vehicles, very dependable, great in the snow, never had an issue with either of them.
