Not sure what you mean by goalie manual control? They make it mandatory?
I think so, I'll have to look in the options screen to see if there is another option. It was in a third person view then the CPU shooter would shoot and it would go into slow mo requiring you to make the save.

Then in a shootout you have to control your own goalie? When shooting you must use the goalie dekes listed in the manual. The dekes are a combination of using L1 and the sticks, after completing the deke it shoots the puck.
yup- a team cant have less than 3 skaters on the ice.
I remember this happened in a Bruins game. Regulation ended with the Bruins on a 5 on 3.
So OT started with the 5 on 3. One penalty expired, so they were playing 5 on 4. Then Marc Savard intentionally took the puck in and out of the zone to get an offsides whiste, so they could go back to the 4 on 3.

Thanks Spear for looking into the user control for season/franchise - sounds like we can control all 30 then - great...thanks again.

Re: NHL 2K9 Impressions Thread (360/PS3)

Game freeze Tied 3 - 3 (Caps-Thrashers), the Thrashers were on a breakaway, and right when he got to the goalie, the game froze.

Anyway - in the game I played, I had 4 penalties called against me, none by the AI (though I saw my guys tripped, hooked, etc - the refs didn't call it). Speaking of which - they need more variety of penalties (no high sticking?).

The one thing I've noticed in hockey games, is that "spacing" seems to be an issue. I know that along the boards, players get tied up - but in the middle of the ice, sometimes it seems that there is a "pileup". Also - when passing to a teammate, it seems that the one player "stops" to get the puck - not really a fluid movement. It just looks a little off

I do like the fact the players feel differently - you can tell the difference between AO and someone like Kozlov. I love the fact too that refs can interfere with the puck, as well as it glancing off sticks -- such as a Backstrom goal I scored from the boards, as it glanced off the D man's stick over the goalie's shoulder.

Seems better than the demo to me.

ps- mine's a 360 copy

Sounds good, is it freezing for both systems?

Re: NHL 2K9 Impressions Thread (360/PS3)

Regarding the penalties guys - if you turn the slider up are you seeing the cpu taking any penalties at all? If anyone can try a quick cpu v cpu game and see if they get called that'd be great. This was a real breaker for 2k8 as in these game penalties were extremely rare with the sliders at max.

Thanks in advance.
