Changing a Players Uniform Number?

I posted this about a day ago in the Q&A thread and got no response. I'd like to apologize in advance if I'm cluttering up the forum if so than please delete this. That being said would changing a players number reverse his progression? I made a trade and Bryce Harpers number was switched from 34 to 35. I really want to change it back but I wasn't sure if it reverse the progression. I know If I go into edit him the little + he has on each of his progressing attributes disappears. Thanks!
