Best time to dfa a player

Franchise players. What is the best time of the season to dfa a player to maximize the chances of keeping them in the organization?

Not sure there really is a good time tbo.

Like the user, the CPU is always watching, ready to pounce. At least that's my experience.

If I DFA a player, its because I dont care if he stays or goes.

This.

But, if we're truly looking at this, I believe The Show Waivers is the current day plus two additional days. You won't get the results until the third day after DFAing/placing a player on Waivers.

By way of trade, I had to DFA a player (65/C Age 23) with two days left in Spring Training, meaning he'd still have one day left on Waivers after the advance to the regular season. I didn't think anyone would claim the player (which I was correct), but I think waiving him during the Spring Training roster cuts helped his case.

Teams all primarily had a full 40-Man Roster. Normal/Playoff teams would be looking to improve their MLB squad and there are plenty of better players available on Waivers. I think another good time would be right after the Rule V Draft in the off-season. Teams likely fall into one of three categories; Already had a full 40-Man Roster before the Draft, Are now full after the Draft, or Are focused on Free Agent offers.

Then again, I've seen players stay in Waivers purgatory where everyone wants to claim them, but no one wants to keep them on the Roster. So, maybe all of this is giving the CPU too much credit for being logical and it's all random luck of when a guy clears vs getting claimed.

In real life? A week after Opening Day. In this game? Never. Be ready to lose that guy if you care about them at all.

Re: Best time to dfa a player

Run 30 team and put waivers on manual so no one loses anyone to waivers is what I do lol. Roster size really isn't large enough for guys to clear waivers, and in order to get franchise started without injuries, idk another way to go about it.

Re: Best time to dfa a player

Does anyone know if the CPU DFA's players that are underperforming?

From what I can tell, it seems like they only DFA guys with low overalls to meet 40 man roster requirements but sometimes they are putting up good numbers.

I think overall and positional requirements are the only thing that makes them DFA or not DFA a player.
