I'm not sure that works or maybe I'm misunderstanding. In game the edit tab the names are in gray and cannot be changed. Only highlighted features can be changed. When I push start it does not say the name it asks if I'm finished editing the player. The only names I can edit in game are the one star players.

I also tried changing his player type in Reditor to an existing CAP to see if I could get the in game edit tab to highlight his name and this didn't work for me.

I'll keep trying stuff. Until then there are hundreds of other fully editable players I can use instead.
