NHL 17 - Toronto Maple Leafs Franchise

Decided to go with The Leafs, was considering ARZ but seems a lot of people are doing the whole bad team relocation thing so going with my fav team.

GM: Lou Lamoriello
Head Coach: Mike Babcock

few rules for my franchise:

1. I can not initiate a trade, can only accept or counter offer incoming trades
2. can not make any trades in season until December
3. any FAs I sign with 80+ overall I must overpay for them to come to a rebuilding team

**forgot to include this**

i am playing with morale on, and if any players morale gets very red (lowest it goes) the rule is I must deal them, no matter who it is

YOUTH MOVEMENT READY TO TAKE OVER IN TORONTO

After a last place finish in 2015-2016 it is no secret that the Leafs will be getting much younger before they get better. And that is really coming to the forefront at the start of the 2016-2017 season. After a preseason that saw the Leafs finish 3-3-1 the team announced that 3 of their top young prospects will be starting the year with the big club:

William Nylander -

A 20 year old center who was drafted 8th overall in 2014 will be starting the season on the right wing of the Leafs top line.

Mitch Marner -

19 year old center drafted 4th overall in 2015 has nothing else to prove in junior hockey and will be starting the season on the wing of Torontos second line.

Auston Matthews -

19 year old center, the consensus 1st overall pick from the 2016 draft will be stepping right into the lineup centering the third line for the Leafs.

With these 3 rookies all playing on separate lines with veterans around them, the team also announced the 3 young forwards will all be together as one of the teams powerplay units.

First Quarter Goes As Expected For Leafs

20 games into the 2016-2017 season the Toronto Maple Leafs sit 25th in the NHL with a record of 9-11-0. The leafs have a 2.75 GFPG and a 3.10 GAPG with both of their special teams sitting near the very bottom of the league.

Center Nazem Kadri currently leads the team in points with 15 points (8-7) in 20 games.

Morgan Reilly as expected leads the defense in points with 10 (2-8) in 20 games.

The main focus for the Leafs fans and management this year is ofcourse the three stud rookies on the team:

William Nylander 20GP 4G 9A
Mitchell Marner 20GP 2G 7A
Auston Matthews 17GP 5G 1A

Toronto As Expected At Halfway Point

41 games through the season the Toronto Maple Leafs have a 19-22-0 record and sit 26th in the NHL. a GFPG of 2.88 a slight improvement so far, their GAPG has gone up to a 3.27. The Leafs special teams continues to be a problem, their Powerplay sitting 28th overall at 13.8%, and the Penalty Kill dead last at 73.0%.

Nazem Kadri continues to be the team leader in points with 13 Goals and 17 Assists in 41 games.

Morgan Rielly has 24 points in 41 games to lead the back end.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen is working hard to try and show he is the solution in the Leafs net. With 17 wins in 36 games, a .901 Save % and a 2.93 GAA, there is still work to be done.

Rookie Watch

William Nylander 41GP 6G 22A
Mitchell Marner 41GP 6G 12A
Auston Matthews 38GP 7G 5A
