GAME 4 - Joe Louis Arena

October 16th, 2015

(2-2-0)

The Canes rallied from a bad start to score 3 unanswered goals in a 5-3 win over Detroit. The comeback started when Victor Rask took a fed in the slot and buried it past Mrazek at 12:05 in the 1st period. Anders Danielsen then sprung Elias Lindholm on a breakaway, who scored his 4th goal of the season to tie the game.

The score remained tied until the 3rd period, when Ryan Murphy put the Canes ahead with a Powerplay marker and his first goal of the season. Anders Danielsen added another goal with 8:05 left in the 3rd, his screened wrist shot from the slot just beat Mrazek's glove. Detroit battled back, scoring just 30 seconds later when Nyquist lifted a shot over a sprawling Eddie Lack.

Danielsen, who already had a goal and an assist in the game, iced it after he picked Dylan Larkin's pocket and raced down the ice to put it in the empty net. It was Danielsen's first multipoint game in his short time in the league.

GAME 5 - Verizon Center

October 17th, 2015

2SO

(2-2-1)

Cam Ward made 28 saves against the surging Capitals but it wasn't enough as the Canes would fall in the shootout.

Alexander Ovechkin's powerplay goal broke the scoreless tie early in the second period; as both Holtby and Ward were playing exceptionally well. Eric Staal was able to tie the game midway through the third period. Cam Ward made a huge save near the end of the period, robbing TJ Oshie of a sure goal.

Both teams exchanged odd man rushes in 3 on 3 overtime but were unable to solve the goaltenders, sending the Canes to their first Shootout of the season.

The shooters for Carolina were Elias Lindholm, Jeff Skinner and Eric Staal. All three were stopped by Holtby. Washington scored with their last shooter, TJ Oshie whose quick dekes fooled Ward, before he fired a backhand over his shoulder.

Riley Nash left the game in the second period after being levelled by Brooks Orpik. Ander Danielsen also left the game in the third period. Currently, there is no word on their condition.

The Canes travelled to Denver for game three of their massive 7 game road trip; where they played a beat up Avalanche team. With Semyon Varlamov on long term disability, the Avs started Reto Berra. They were also without Tyson Barrie, Nathan MacKinnon and Alex Tanguay.

Both Riley Nash and Anders Danielsen were back in the lineup after leaving last weeks game in Washington. The Canes opened the scoring 3 minutes in the first when Rask and Nestrasil scored on a give and go. Carolina's top line connected to make it 2-0 on the next shift.

After adding another in the second period the flood gates opened in the third shortly after Colorado pulled Berra in favour of Pickard. Jordan Staal scored on his first shot against the new netminder and then the defence got into the action as Hanifin wired a point shot past him just 1 minute later.

Carolina would go on to explode for 5 goals against Pickard in the third period. The Canes would end up with 5 players with multiple points; including a goal and two assists from the Captain Eric Staal. They also got contributions from the top three lines, with only the 4th line being held pointless.

Cam Ward made 18 saves on his way to his first shutout of the season.

I usually play in Coach Mode for 1 or 2 periods while I'm cooking supper or cleaning and then I jump in when I can; usually the last period. So the majority of the games are what I call Sim-Watch. For the 8-0 thumping on Colorado that was actually all AI vs AI, as I meant to jump in but was too busy so it just played out that way.

Thanks for following.

GAME 7 - Staples Center

October 23rd, 2015

5
3

(4-2-1)

Carolina's 7 game road trip swung into the City of Angeles as they took on the Los Angeles Kings, where the home team was currently on a 3 game win streak.

Drew Doughty scored his second of the season and Anze Kopitar got his fourth late in the first to give the Kings a 2-1 lead.

Carolina battled back however, first Danielsen scored a powerplay goal to tie it up and Rask put the Canes ahead 3-2 at 9:02 of the second when he connected on a one-timer from the left edge of the crease. Nestrasil fed him tape-to-tape with a backhand pass from behind the net.

Jeff Skinner was levelled from behind by Muzzin early in the third. Skinner laid motionless for several moments before being helped off by teammates. His condition is currently unknown. Muzzin was assessed a match penalty and ejected from the game. The Canes made them pay on the scoreboard by scoring two powerplay goals to put them up 5-2.

The Kings added a late goal but it wasn't enough as the surging Canes win again.

CANES LOSE SKINNER FOR 4-5 WEEKS

October 24th, 2015

Carolina will be without star Left Winger Jeff Skinner for the next 4-5 weeks after he sustained an injury in last nights game against Los Angeles.

At 3:05 into the third period, Kings defenceman Jake Muzzin nailed Skinner with a check from behind into the boards. Skinner was down for several moments before being helped off the ice by teammates.

Skinner left the arena that evening to get x-rays at a nearby hospital. The team learned today as they prepared to take on the San Jose Sharks tonight, that the extent of the injury is severe enough that he will miss quite a bit of time.

Brad Malone will be activated tonight after being a healthy scratch for the first seven games of the season. LW Brock McGinn has been called up from Charlotte, but is expected to join the team on the 27th when they play in Detroit. McGinn has been red hot playing for Carolina's AHL team; registering 3 goals and 2 assists in his first 4 games with the Checkers.

GAME 8 - SAP Center

October 24th, 2015

4

(4-3-1)

It was the Logan Couture show as the San Jose Sharks came back from a 3-1 deficit to topple the Canes 4-3.

Jordan Staal scored his second of the season to cap a 3 goal first period. San Jose started their rally midway through the second when at 10:12 Couture connected with Joe Pavelski on the powerplay to pull within a goal.

San Jose tied the game early in the third period when Braun stole a clearing pass and fed the puck to Couture, who beat Lack one-on-one. Couture then scored the game winner at the 3 minute mark when he redirected a Paul Martin point shot past Lack, for his third point of the game.
