Steelers Move to 2-0 Vs NFC East
After a close call vs the Oilers the Steelers faithful had a virtually stress free day. The Steelers dominated from the opening kick. On their first drive the Steelers moved down the field using O'Donnell's arm. He hit Ernie Mills for a 35 yard corner route and then capped the drive by hitting a wide open Eric Green down the seam from 24 yards out. A John L. Williams rushing touchdown and a pair of Anderson field goals in the second quarter gave the Steelers a 20-0 half time lead. After the teams traded field goals in the 3rd quarter the score stood at 23-3 entering the 4th quarter.
Defensively, Carnell Lake had a pro bowl kind of day. He recorded six tackles while creating two drive ending turn overs. A first half pick and a fourth quarter strip sack that that Chad Brown scooped up and raced 87 yards towards the end zone before being tripped up. Barry Foster would pound the ball into the end zone from 6 yards out to make the score 30-3. Cunningham was under duress all afternoon. He was sacked 6 times, 2.5 times by Ray Seals, and was forced to check the ball down quickly. Cunningham was able to avoid some pressure as he created chunk plays with his legs as he racked up over 100 yards on scrambles. It is hard to sustain offense when that is your only source of it. Next week the Steelers will host the 5-0 Browns in a first place showdown between the top dogs of the AFC North.
