Week 1: Vikings vs. Titans Recap
Henry TD.jpg Derrick Henry celebrates after his first career TD in the NFL
The Titans and the Vikings battled it out in Nashville in Week 1 and it was a thriller.
The Titans scored on their first possession for the only points of the 1st Quarter as Ryan Succop nailed a 38 yard FG from the right hash.
But, the Vikings would score two straight TD's to start off the 2nd quarter. The first was on a 3 yard run by backup HB Jerick McKinnon on his only carry of the game. McKinnon came in the game to give Peterson a breather as he had carried the ball for 6 out of the past 7 plays. Then, the Vikings would score on a 30 yard TD pass from Shaun Hill to WR Stefon Diggs on a post route. Diggs out ran Titans CB Perish Cox and was all alone in the endzone for the score.
The Titans would respond with 2 huge TD's themselves. The first was a 43 yard TD pass to Kendall Wright. Wright caught the ball on an out route, made a defender miss, and and did the rest himself as he sprinted from about the 35 yard line into the endzone. On Minnesota's ensuing possession they got to midfield and it was 3rd and 10. Tennessee brought a blitz and Brian Orakpo sacked Hill and forced a fumble, which was picked up by Derrick Morgan with only 46 seconds left in the half. And just as the half came to a close, Marcus Mariota threw a bomb to Rookie WR Tajae Sharpe who made a beautiful fingertip catch in the endzone for his first career TD catch. Going into the half, Tennessee held the 17-14 lead.. And they wouldn't look back.
Tennessee started off the 3rd Quarter in a huge way by forcing Minnesota to punt after 3 plays and Dexter McCluster returned the punt 58 yards for the TD. McCluster caught the ball on the right hash, cut back to the left sideline, and was gone for the TD. Then, later in the quarter, rookie HB Derrick Henry took the hand off out of the I formation, then cut to the outside and went untouched on his 24 yard TD run which was the first of his career.
Minnesota responded later on a 24 yard TD pass to a wide open Charles Johnson in the corner of the endzone.
The fourth quarter went by quietly as neither team score until there was less than a minute left. Tennessee lined up for the 47 yard FG attempt and it was blocked. Alejandro Sendejo scooped the ball up and returned the fumble 63 yards for the TD to make the score 31-28. If Minnesota could recover the onside kick, then they had a chance to pull off the incredible comeback win.
However, Tennessee recovered the onside kick and would run the clock out to defeat the Vikings in a thriller, 31-28.

Yeah, that was pretty nerve wracking at the very end. I've never actually had the CPU block one of my field goals before, and on top of that, they returned it back for a TD. Luckily for me, when they did the onside kick, it pretty much hit Anthony Fasano in the chest, so it was an easy recovery for us. Thanks for the comment though!

Thanks! I'm a big fan of Mariota too! I really wish the Titans O-Line was better last season... Cause before he kept getting injured due to getting hit what seemed like every other play, he was on pace to break a couple rookie records. And he's having a fantastic preseason, so I'm excited to see what he'll do this year!

Week 2: Titans vs. Lions Recap
Murray TD.jpg DeMarco Murray points to the sky after his 1st TD as a Tennessee Titan
The Titans and the lions battled it out in Detroit on Sunday and the Titans came away with the huge victory.
It took a little over 8 minutes, but the Titans finally got on the board late in the 1st Quarter as DeMarco Murray sprinted 12 yards into the endzone for his first TD as a Titan. Murray took the handoff going to his left, broke a tackle, and cut up field and ran untouched from there for the score. On Detroit's ensuing possession, Matthew Stafford was sacked by Derrick Morgan. Stafford fumbled the ball and Titans' star D-Lineman Jurrell Casey was there in an instance. Casey picked the ball up and the big fella rumbled about 40 yards for the TD.
Detroit got on the board early in the 2nd Quarter thansk to a 28 yard FG by Matt Prater from the left hash. But, it was all Titans to end the half. The first TD that the Titans' scored was a 38 yard pass from Marcus Mariota to rookie WR Tajae Sharpe for the 2nd TD of his career in just his 2nd game. Sharpe beat his man off the line and Mariota threw a beautiful deep ball that was right on the money and Sharpe came away with another long TD catch. Then, with less than a minute left in the half, DeMarco Murray scored his 2nd TD run of the half. This time it was a 4 yard run right up the middle. So, going into halftime, the Titans were up 28-3.
Matt Prater came through again for the Lions in the 3rd Quarter, as he made a 54 yard FG this time that looked like it could have been good from 60 yards out. Later in the quarter, the Titans responded with a TD as Marcus Mariota found Delanie Walker wide open in the corner of the endzone for the easy 3 yard pitch and catch TD.
The Lions closed the gap in the 4th as Theo Riddick capped off his successful game on the ground with a 1 yard TD run as he just plunged right up the middle from the goal line formation.
In the end, the Titans proved to be too much as they move to 2-0 on the young season, while the Lions fall to 0-2. It is the first time since 2008 that the Titans have started a season 2-0.
