Giants eye big 2023 season after inking Daniel Jones
Daniel Jones will be the man to lead the Big Blue for years to come the front office had decided after giving the young Duke product an extension as his rookie contract came to an end. NFL franchises are regularly looking for their man under center and when it came to the Giants they believe they have found their man.
It is up to Brian Daboll and the Giants coaching staff to build around him, with an electrifying halfback in Saquon Barkley adding another dimension to this offense the Giants are hoping for another playoff run after last season's impressive and unexpected run to the post season. It won't be easy playing in a now difficult NFC East which is just a few years removed from being one of the worst in the NFL but now has seen resurgence from the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles proving to be one of, if not the most difficult conference to play in.
There is still hope for this team however, while free agent signing Kenny Golladay didn't work out, the team's offense is spearheaded by a solid youth receiving core headlined by Sterling Shepherd and Darius Slayton. The Giants are hoping to be able to leverage the skill of Barkley to open up the pass attack. Along with newcomer Darren Waller, from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Defensively the team has room for improvement but even so is helmed by one of the best in the NFL in Dexter Lawrence II, a tremendous defensive tackle. Beyond that Bobby Okerke roams the middle of the field and Xavier McKinney has the secondary.
This team has holes but they also have topside that should allow them to potentially reach the playoffs yet again. Will this be a year of them making another run or will they return to Earth and have a modest season and a high draft pick. The 2023 season for the Giants is a toss up and it's time to dig in.

Dak Prescott had a great eye downfield, big plays common for the Cowboys on Sunday
Giants comeback falls short, big plays lead Cowboys to victory in opening week
Daniel Jones would miss time in the first game of the season, leading the Giants deferring to Tyrod Taylor to try and lead a comeback. It would fall short as Dak Prescott and the Cowboy's offense was nearly perfect, pushing the ball downfield effortlessly thanks to huge plays. In fact despite scoring 4 touchdowns on Sunday night, the Cowboys never were in the redzone.
Dak Prescott finished with 344 yards on 4 touchdowns and Brandin Cooks and Michael Gallup proved to be downball threats, routinely getting behind the cornerbacks and leading the Cowboys with a pair of touchdowns each. Both had two touchdowns a piece, and the Cowboy's offense was proficient on downfield passes.
The Cowboys would start to stumble in the second half. While their high speed quick hitting offense downfield led to an early lead aided by Giant's turnovers, the second half was a different story as the Giants leaned on Saquon Barkley who had 123 rushing yards despite being held out of hte endzone.
After an early third quarter touchdown on the first offensive drive for the Cowboys, the Giants woudl strike back with a pair of unanswered scores, but once Daniel Jones went out the verticality seemed to fall from the offense leading to a short pass offense that heavily relied on Saquon Barkley. This including a three and out in the forth quarter, the Giants weren't able to score fast enough. Their final score coming on a pass from Tyrod Taylor to Sterling Shepherd.
The Giants would force the Cowboys to a quick three and out but lacking verticality meant the Giants couldn't push the ball downfield fast enough without timeouts and the game ended with the Giants possession.
Dak Prescott in leading the Cowboys to a 1-0 record earned player of the game honors throwing for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns, without a blemish on his passing record. Two fumbles would be the turnovers for the Cowboys on Sunday.
(1) Kayvon Thibodeaux delivers a punishing hit on Sunday.
(2) Michael Gallup hauls in a pass and piles on the RAC with a touchdown

Giants roll over Cardinals, pick up first win of the season 28-3
The Giants defense rebounded in a big way after week 1, the performances almost completely night and day from one another. A sack and an interception helped stymie the Cardinals offensive attack led by journeyman Joshua Dobbs who was entirely ineffective on Sunday. Conversely Daniel Jones played a decent game though a pair of interceptions served as a blemish on the Duke product's final statline, even if they ultimately only led to 3 points for the Cardinals.
Saquon Barkley continues to be the juggernaut of the offense, carrying the offense on his shoulders while rushing for over 150 yards and finally picking up his first score of the season, getting into the end zone twice on Sunday. His rushing helped keep the pressure off Daniel Jones who started with 6 straight completions before struggling some in the second and early third quarter.
The questions of the verticality were also answered when Daniel Jones connected with Parris Campbell on a fly route, the wideout pulling it in, in stride and running the rest of the way for a 67 yard touchdown, the longest of the season and the first touchdown that came outside of the redzone for the Giants this season.
On defense for the Cardinals Budda Baker had himself a game and proved to be a thorn in the Giants offense, pulling in an interception and making several key stops that kept the game from getting too far out of it. The offense just couldn't back things up and take advantage of the Giants turnovers.
Conversely for the Giants, Azeez Ojulari made his first sack of the season and Byron Jones was responsible for the team's first interception of the season, jumping a slant intended for Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and drawing in the interception in the fourth quarter killing all hope the Cardinals had at a potential rally.
For his efforts, Saquon Barkley was named player of the game as the Giants picked up their first win of the season. The Giants will continue their small road trip with a game against San Francisco, another tough early season contest. It'll be important for Barkley to establish the ground attack early, otherwise the 49ers pass rush could make it a long Thursday for Daniel Jones.

Giants trade for Rashee Rice after contract talks with Sterling Shepherd breakdown
The Giants had hoped to extend Sterling Shepherd but after talks broke down the veteran receiver asked for a trade away from the team. The Giants looking to stockpile assets and move up in the draft this season were able to do just that by trading with the Chiefs.
In this move, the Chiefs add to their wide receiver corp. Sterling Shepard is a veteran wideout that offers a lot for a team that is looking to compete for a title yet again, even on a one year deal.
The Giants pick up a young talent in wideout Rashee Rice. Rice will likely figure to settle into the slot, giving the Giants a young wideout, adding a little youth infusion to the wide receiving room and may even see time in the return game.
As part of the trade, the Giants also sent 2024 3rd, 5th and a 2026 7th round pick for the Chiefs 2024 2nd round pick, adding additional draft capital allowing them to move up from the third to the second round.
