Coming off a surprising 2022 campaign the Seattle Seahawks look to make another leap towards greatness in 2023. Geno Smith shocked the world after taking over for Seattle legend Russell Wilson. Smith won comeback player of the year honors after taking over as the starter and leading the Seahawks to an improbable playoff run in the NFC. Now after stacking the roster with the bevy of draft picks acquired in the Wilson deal, the Seahawks have a young talented roster looking to make noise behind their veteran signal caller, and long tenured coach Pete Carroll. Lets take a look at the men who will comprise this year's squad, and a look ahead to the upcoming season

Key Roster Additions:

LB - Bobby Wagner - After one year in Los Angeles the Seahawks all-time leading tackler is back home in Seattle to captain a young aggressive defense.

CB - Devon Witherspoon - The prize acquired by Seattle in the Russell Wilson trade was the #5 pick in last years draft. They used it on Witherspoon who they hope to put opposite rookie standout Tariq Woolen to form a top secondary in the league

WR - Jaxon Smith-Njigba - Outside of the top 2 the Seahawks have struggled to find much production from the receiver position. They hope to change that by plugging Smith-Njigba into the slot position. JSN was widely regarded as the top WR in this past year's draft.

Key Losses:

HB - Rashaad Penny - When healthy Penny was a productive as any back in the league, but those moments were unfortunately few and far between during Penny's time in Seattle. Kenneth Walker II will take over the feature back role this season.

DL: Shelby Harris - Harris was one of the key pieces in the Russell Wilson trade last offseason, but the Seahawks let him walk this offseason.

Looking Ahead

The Seahawks will be in the prime-time spotlight three times this upcoming season, the big one of course the Thanksgiving day showdown with the 49ers at Lumen Field. Seattle also had prime-time dates with the New York Giants, and Dallas Cowboys to look forward to, as well as a trip to Nashville on Christmas Eve to face the Titans.

Seahawks Fall in Preseason Opener

Seattle - Some rookies impressed in Seattle's 2023 preseason opener, and some not so much as Seattle ultimately couldn't hold on to a 14 point lead and fell to the Minnesota Vikings 35-27. Jaxon Smith-Njigba led all receivers with 101 yards on the night, while Zach Charbonnet had a nice showing with 55 yards, and a touchdown. On the flip side rookie QB Holton Ahlers had a night he'd like to forget tossing four interceptions in the second half, which helped propel the Vikings comeback. Seattle's next preseason tilt will be next Saturday hosting the Dallas Cowboys.

Kicking Woes Doom Seattle to 2nd Preseason Loss

Easop Winston Jr. sprints to the end zone after catching a long pass in the 4th quarter.

Seattle - The offense shined in the second preseason game for Seattle, but some kicking miscues cost Seattle a chance at a victory as they fell to the Cowboys 33-32 in preseason action. Jason Myers was shaky missing two extra points, and the game winning field goal chance at the end after Seattle drove into range on the final drive. Head coach Pete Carroll did not seem to concerned after the game and made clear they have complete faith in Myers to come through once the games count. It put a stain on what was a complete offensive showing for Seattle on the ground and through the air. After a solid first half the defense could not keep up in the second half with Cooper Rush and the Cowboys backups. Seattle will now look ahead to their preseason finale next Saturday at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.

Seahawks Look Ahead to Regular Season After 42-21 Loss

Green Bay - With mostly backups playing the majority of the game against Green Bay's starters the Seahawks preseason came to close with a 42-21 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field. Afterwards there was not too much concern in the Seahawks locker room as all the talk was of looking ahead to the regular season opener in two weeks at Lumen Field. The next big date on the calendar is Tuesday where rosters will need to be trimmed to 53 before the start of the season.

Week 1 Preview vs. Los Angeles Rams

Seattle - The Seattle Seahawks embark on their 2023 campaign this Sunday when they open their schedule against divison foe the Los Angeles Rams at home. After a Superbowl championship in 2021 the Rams had a dismal, injury 2022, and with the cap effects coming into play LA looks more like a rebuilding franchise than champion. Still Seattle will need to be on high alert to start 2023 off with a W.

Seahawks Look Dominant in Opener

Jaxon Smith-Njigba carries defenders into the endzone for his first career touchdown.

Seattle - Fans who were expecting a lot from the 2023 Seattle Seahawks were in for a treat on Sunday in the season opener. The Seahawks dominated a Rams team that historically gives them fits, going up 34-7 in the third quarter before taking their foot off the gas and coasting to a week 1 victory. Fans might have a gripe with how Stafford and the Rams offense racked up some yards in garbage time, but the game was well in hand before the fourth quarter got underway, so it's hard to take anything relevant from those final few drives. Geno Smith looked sharp, and some of the Seahawks new toys were able to show off. Notably Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had some big catches including his first NFL touchdown. Seattle will now hit the road for a tought test against another upstart NFC team in the Detroit Lions next Sunday.
