Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Started listening to GSH Pieces of a Man yesterday after someone posted The Revolution will not be Televised on reddit. Where have I heard “Home is Where the Hatred Is” sampled? “It might not be such a bad idea if I never went home again” I can hear it on an outro but I can’t remember the song.

It's Cordae. Can't think of the song name off the top of my head, but it's definitely off his album last year.

Edit: Bad Idea w/ Chance the Rapper.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Damn there’s another one, the one I was thinking of was Homegrown by Skyzoo and Pete Rock off of Retropolitan.

Kanye West feat. Common - My Way Home off Late Registration

Also, that is a classic album by Gil Scott-Heron. May he R.I.P, man. We could use revolutionary voices like his today.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

There's still some firebrand voices out there - jazz in particular.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Listened to the Sofia Chang episode of Questlove Supreme this morning. Her story by itself is fascinating and then to top it off with her stories about Wu-Tang Clan was even better. A lot of cool insight and some shared nerdiness between her and Questlove. I really need to watch the Hulu show.

Definitely recommend it: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7Fd...TrmTgnTZPV2_HA

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Jay Elec album release day, what a time to be alive.

First Uzi doing the deluxe album the right way, putting out a whole new album worth of material that I can just make a separate album and not have to disturb the original so good on him for that. Should've made the first half of his Kobe verse the hook, it sounds so good. Features came through, 21, Durk, and Nav especially. My Nav fandom may have reached a new high with "Made a cult following like Jim Jones", he just says the most random **** and it's hilarious.

The only thing that stands out from Don Tolliver's album on the first listen is Euphoria but that's OK because when Travis is in his bag, **** is immaculate.

It's kinda weird that after what, 11 years, the album we've been waiting for and finally get is a joint album WTT 1.5 kinda thing. Every time I listen to a joint Jay-Z album (the one with Beyonce, WTT, this) I'm always asking myself do I like Jay-Z? I just feel like he does something to songs that makes me not like them unless he's by himself. My favorite song on this album by far is Fruits of the Spirit, Universal Soldier and the last one after that, at least for now.

It truly is the end of the world as we know it.

Look out for Detox and OutKast Gangsta Grillz before the locusts come.
