Franchise player progression

Just completed my first season and won the cup with Detroit. The next season, my guys’ overall rating didn’t improve at all. Is this just how it is? Seems like winning a cup and being very productive would show upgrades. Like in Madden. Thanks

They do improve some way better than they should. EA is using a newer progression system this year and it has some bugs for sure but they do progress.
