Maybe calling it a momentum meter rather than pressure would help with it staying full on face offs

Re: Pressure system thoughts

At first I was excited for this feature and what it could bring to the table. Finally a way to promote selfless play rather than the tired ballerina fest of NHL games past.

Then the more I saw of it, the more I started to realize that this "pressure" meter is looking like it's the much maligned "momentum meter" everyone has talked about for years that EA says was never in the game. And yet, here's this thing acting just like the momentum meter supposedly does.

The way it just arbitrarily raises the meter for no reason other than "your team has the puck", while draining the defensive team's resources. Kinda fishy... At least if the pressure bar was filed by doing actual hockey things like successfully cycling the puck (2 passes or more, not just one), changing offensive strats on the fly, keeping the puck in, taking a GOOD shot. While also draining the meter for doing BAD things, like missing passes, missing shots, getting hit or having the puck dumped out of the zone.

Then the meter would actually be more useful and "realistic" as per the actual sport.

Re: Pressure system thoughts

unnecessary feature imo. All they had to do was tune the online game to make fatigue matter. The tools were already there, we had the sliders, but now they made this system that's very arbitrary (wasn't arbitrary before) and not only provides a fatigue effect but actually lowers your base stats as well which I find baffling.

If I'm "x" good at passing...let's say 90 for this sake, then fatigue effect should already be making me execute at an 88 or 84, or 80, whatever the calculation is due to my fatigue. Now, this system actually takes my 90 and reduces it by 2 then adds fatigue as well from my understanding. That's just weird...

Too arbitrary of a system ("good shot") for my taste. I get these results every day in NHL 20 as well as incidental contact and dyanmic goalies so I think I'll stick with 20 once again.

Re: Pressure system thoughts

Good idea execution not so much needs balancing a bit more but I think any additions like this are good. Problem is doesn't scale with game speed or sliders very well, or at all easily abused. Think the AI in franchise mode and offline gets very strong. Simple fix add a couple of sliders so people can tweak.

Re: Pressure system thoughts

I love it. It has given the cpu offense that much needed punch I've always felt I was missing before. Before this year it was a struggle to get good SOG numbers for the cpu. Pressure system has caused that number to be where I've been wanting to see it, and it's consistent from game to game. Those who play longer periods will probably seee TOO many SOG cause of it, but I enjoy the games under 35-40min mark.

For me as it stands now, the pressure system is good...8/10 I would say.

I play 11 minute periods and with sliders, the pressure system can be minimized.

Shot accuracy
Hit power
Puck control
Pass accuracy.

It happens to me on average 2-3 times per game each team, and due to the sliders, not only is it harder to activate it ( cpu and human), it is also harder to sustain it. Id say around 50 percent of the pressure situations I and the cpu clear the puck right away. And it is more often than not to have the pressure situation end well before the full 30 seconds run through.

It STILL needs tuning though, but as it is now, it's pretty close to optimum.

What needs to be tuned are of course the on ice graphics and the ratings nerf. Needs to be a linear rapid decline...rather than an off/on switch mechanism.

Also, the timeout plays a bigger role due to this pressure system. Last game, held a 3-1 lead late in 3rd, and cpu pressure meter was full, called timeout and poof, back to empty.

Re: Pressure system thoughts

I'm sorry but this entire concept is complete crap.

How fatigue and sustained pressure worked in the previous games was perfectly fine.

This arbitrary system with not actual fatigue adjustments just makes no sense as a mechanic.

Re: Pressure system thoughts

I don't even notice it anymore... I am so used to watching live hockey on TV with the ads in practically the same place, I don't pay attention to it... Sure it would be nice to turn it off for those who dislike it. That's a fair ask, but I wish we could also turn off the ribbon boards... I would rather see the game in the current view as it would look if attending in person... If they had a TV style presentation, the ribbon boards would be an added effect to try to authenticate the look of TV.

As for the logic of fatigue due to pressure, I agree with many that it doesn't really coincide with how fatigue should be affected with pressure... If you are chasing the puck the whole time in the zone, yes, it should affect the fatigue of that player, but for the whole team to get penalized, even if they are somewhat stationary isn't realistic... I have never had an issue with fatigue with other versions and it seemed to work better then than what we have now...

The only thing I think is working with it is that the CPU does seem to cycle the puck more, take more shots from the point than in previous years.
