Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel Thread

Beilein may have been able to convince some of them to stay, considering they are slotted in the second round or undrafted. With him gone however, it makes sense that they'd all leave. I'm not expecting much this coming year.

Considering all the circumstances, Juwan Howard is a solid enough hire.

Re: 2019 Coaching Carousel Thread

If I was a Michigan fan I would be happy with the Howard hire.
Although many of them are way too excited for it and think he will be 100 times better than what they had. Its like they don't understand how good B was. I guess they have just moved on which is smart I guess.

I just don't think this is going to go well but we shall see.
I just don't think he will want to put the time in on the recruiting trail that you have to put in. This the downfall for most ex NBA guys that made millions then became college coaches.
I look for them to be just horrible next year as they are losing everybody and there are no recruits left. Then next year he will bring in a big recruit or two and they will be a little better. But will 2 very below average seasons (compared to what B did) wear him down or is he really in it for the long run??
At least per Jay Williams anyway the "culture" is back at Michigan.

Juwan Howard basically recruited the Fab 5 when he was a player though, lol

That has nothing to do with his recruiting now. lol
Like I said I have no idea how he will do but most guys like him don't want to live on the recruiting trail and they become very bored with it.
Hes use to a certain lifestyle.
He is use to people begging him for things, not the other way around.
Lets just say more often then not ex NBA players don't make for good college coaches.

Yes, but he'll be operating with a much smaller budget to pay recruits than he was then...

So Phil Martelli is being floated as Juwan Howard associate head coach.
