February 24 and 25 boxing on TV

February 24
ESPN 2 - Juan Carlos Burgos (28-1) vs. Cristobal Cruz (39-12-3)
ESPN 2 - Edgar Santana (26-3) vs. Manuel Perez (16-7-1)
*You never know what your gonna get, but I enjoy Joe and Teddy's commentary
*My picks Burgos and Santana

February 24
Showtime - Jessie Vargas (17-0) vs. Lanardo Tyner (25-6-2)
Showtime - Deandre Latimore (22-3) vs. Ryan Davis (23-9-3)
*These shows are usually good
*My picks Vargas and Latimore

February 25
EPIX - Alexander Povetkin (23-0) vs. Marco Huck (34-1)
EPIX - Nathan Cleverly (23-0) vs. Tommy Karpency (21-2-1)
*Really pumped for these fights
*My picks Povetkin, but Huck may keep it interesting and Cleverly

February 25
HBO - Marcos Maidana (31-2) vs. Devon Alexander (22-1)
HBO - Adrien Broner (22-0) vs. Eloy Perez (23-0-2)
*Really excited for this card as well
*My picks Alexander (if it was scheduled for 12 I would pick Maidana) and Broner

I thought we had some good scraps on this weekend. I will comment on the matches I was able to watch.

*Povetkin vs Huck - It was bad for Huck until the 4th. He turned it up and won by at least 2 rounds on my card. The judges gave the close rounds to Povetkin and I didn't really have a big deal with the outcome.

*Broner vs Perez - I thought it would be tougher for Broner, but he was to big and fast for Perez. If he has the work ethic he can be good for many years and probably two more weight classes. Though I hope he fully dominates 130 before looking for bigger fish.

*Alexander vs Maidana - I pictured a KO for Maidana in the middle rounds when they stepped into the ring, but my official pick was Alexander decision. I didn't think Alexander would dominate like he did; credit to his trainer for keeping him calm in the early rounds.

I don't know what you all think, but it is time for the referee's to start deducting points early and often for constant grabbing and clinching. I don't know how many times both Alexander and Maidana punched and grabbed, it really hurts the flow of the fight. If Alexander would have stopped trying to tie Maidana up after every punch combo, Maidana would of been out of there earlier in my opinion.

Alexander has star qualities but needs to learn to pace himself. He has good speed, and power and accuracy but he seems out if control at times and his head movement is lacking.

Not sure if he has star quality anywhere, but his hometown. I agree with you on what he needs to improve ASAP. I hope he continues his string of tough opponents and wouldn't mind seeing him against winner of Berto vs Ortiz or several other top Welters.

Povetkin/Huck, good fight. I would've liked to see Huck get the win though. I was only mystified with that one judge's card that had Povetkin winning 8-4.
