Cubs front office
May 19th, 1983
Cubs record: 13-20

Dallas Green knew he was in deep trouble. The Cubs were struggling and the pitching had been giving up too many runs. The offense was struggling to make up those runs. He knew he had to make a change. He called the GM of the Phillies. As he was dialing his assistant GM. Mark Cruse walked in "We have the scouting reports on Clemens." He laid them on the desk and left.
"Hello Paul?" Green said as he heard a gruff hello.
"Yes who is this?"
"This is Dallas Green, GM of the Cubs."
"Yes what can I do for you?"
"I have a trade for Joe Morgan"
"I'm listening."
"We will send Jay Johnstone and Gary Woods for Morgan."
"I like the offer but can I get a minor leaguer, not a big prospect but someone who can make the majors?"
"Sure we can send you Rick Bordi from Iowa. He is 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA."
"Sure, I'll tell Joe, be advised however he does have a no-trade clause and the Cubs aren't on the list."
"OK, I will wait for you to tell me if he accepts."
Dallas hung up. He knew he was giving up a potential major league starter but he knew that Joe Morgan could help off the bench and give Sandberg an off day every once in a while. Plus, he can occasionally start in the outfield.
