NBA 2K9 Association: 2008-09 Dallas Mavericks Part 1

Posted 11-16-2008 at 11:42 PM by ProfessaPackMan
So yea...I decided to start a blog on my association with the Mavericks, in case people were interested and wanted to follow it.

I'm a little late starting this as I have already started my association and am 12 games in. But anyway, I am currently 7-5 right now, in 3rd place in the Southwest Division, a half game behind the Spurs(7-4)and 3 games behind the Rockets(10-1).

After getting off to a 3-4 start with losses to the Lakers, Rockets, Cavs, and Clippers, we ran off 4 straight wins to get to 7-4. Although none of those wins weren't quite impressive as I hope(all 4 teams are either in 3rd place or worst in their divisions)I did get to discover a few things about my team as we started to just dig into the season

Antoine Wright has been great for me. I went ahead with him as the starter over Jason Terry, where I could just focus Terry on backing up J.Kidd at the PG spot. Wright matches up with a lot of SGs and has some defense in him(although it could be better but he'll improve)So far he's averaging 8.9 ppg and 2.3 asts, and considering the fact that I wasn't really expecting much from him, I'll more than ecstatic and if he can keep this up all year, I see no reason why he shouldn't be at the top of my list when it's time to do extensions.

Another bright spot on my team has been the emergence of SG Gerald Green. When the season started, he wasn't anything more than a player who would get garbage time minutes. But in the time he has received though, he has gladly taken advantage of it, so once I seen that I decided to up his minutes and give him the role of sixth man and his morale jumped up from the low 70s to 100!

I'll get to the rest of the players in future updates of my blog, which I will try to do a few times out the week, back to the Mavs.

Riding high on our 4 game win streak, our road would take us to Houston, where we looked to avenge our first meeting in the season opener. This game would pretty much mirror the first one as we got off to a good start in the 1st half. We weren't shooting particularly well, but we made up for it on the defensive end of the court and went into halftime up 38-34 against the best team in the league. We we're getting killed on the rebounds in the first half though, as Yao Ming and Luis Scola were slaugtering us on the boards. And to make matters worse, my best rebounder Erick Dampier left the game early and didn't return. Early reports coming out were that it was just a twisted ankle and that he would miss 3 days. It was sort of a good news/bad news type deal. Good news was that it was nothing serious but when he injured it, I thought for sure he might've broke it. The bad news is that it affects his value on the market as I did have him out there available for trade but now I'm hesistant to think that some team will take an aging C who has now added a twisted ankle to his list of injuries.

In the 2nd half, the Rockets showed why they are the best team in the league as they would use stifling defense to hold me to only 13 points in the 3rd quarter and they would go on to score 29 in the quarter and took off from there. The Rockets went on to win 84-66 and ended my 4 game win streak. After a day off, we bounce back with a home game against the suprising Grizzles, who are only a half game behind us in the division. After that, we get 3 days off(2 of which will be practice days)before we come back with another home game against Indiana, before we head back on the road to visit Kobe and the crew and a trip to Sacramento, the next night.

In my next blog update, I'll probably have more stuff in there, in terms of recaps, what players are doing what, etc, etc. So hopefully you'll follow me on my quest to get Mr. Kidd that ever elusive ring that he's seeking.

pretty cool man. how many minutes are you playin on and on what skill level? man, I've played the Rockets twice in my Nugs association and they slaughtered me both times. Yao just murders me.

Good look on G. Green too. Kid's got a load of talent

Nice write-up...How has Terry taken to being just a role-playing back-up? Since Green is your 6th man. How's Nowitzki doing for you? How's Stack too?
