Back to the future

February 27th in myNBA 2k, we are travelling to Charlotte to play the Hornets on the road.

Playing a fair amount of games is very good in myNBA 2K because it gives you a better feel for what team you want to build and how you build your roster.

We are 6 weeks or so from the end of the season, I start to receive scouting update from my personel department and it is just natural that the mind start to be thinking about off season. Trying to foreast the roster for next season and what we need and what we want.

There is something I did not see coming, it is how good Saddiq Bey is.

Saddiq Bey has been a starter from the beginning of the season. But Bey has quietly emerged as the best player in the roster when we need a 3 points bucket. it became obvious in the final minute of a very close game versus memphis when he had a clutch 3P fielkd goal for the win.

Bey started 58 of Pistons 59 games so far, playing an average of 31 minutes per game. He attempts an average of 10.5 three points shoot per game with a completion rate of .403. His TS% of .615 is the best within Pistons roster.

At the end of the day there is only one ball...

The ripple effect of Bey emergence as a #1 option in permiter shooting impacts his fellow mate Jerami Grant. Grant started the season has the number option on offence. But the growth of Cunningham and the emergence of Bey decreased his production on offence. At the end of the day there is only one ball...

Grant will be on a contract year next season. He started 57 games at Power Forward this season averaging 33 minutes per game and leads the team with 19.7 average points per game.

Now Grant is more a SF converted to play PF, a bit similar to Bey. He is not much at his ease to play in the post and becomes a liability at PF when we play a big #4 such as Giannis. he had one of his worst day when we played the Kings and when he had to match up Bagley III.

So an idea starts to come to my mind in trying to trade him in the offseason something, honestly, I would really have excluded at the begining of the season because i like overall the player Jerami Grant is.

So it is tempting to define the PF we would like to have

I would like someone who could bring us something we dont have:

• Physical post defence and rebounding.
• Effective post offence.
• I would like as well the future PF to be able to finish at the rim (something Saddiq is not really great at)
• ... and he would need to be a decent perimeter shooter because... it is 2021 NBA.

Yes I know I am picky.

Now, who would fit the description in future off season ?

Free agency:

• Technically Carmelo Anthony and Al Horford are projected UFAs at the end of the season and fit the description. Now it is not realistic to expect to bring them to Detroit.
• Bagley III is a projected RFA (and yes i am awarre of the irl rumours). So he could be an option. Kings may not match but it will cost at least $30M a year.

Draft: Two pretty good prospects could fit the description. Jabari Smith from Auburn and Nikola Jokic from Serbia. Both projected in the top 10. Both having rough 3P jumper which will need to be developped. We may have better option but...

Trade: there are a few options...

• Pascal Siakam has been traded to Hornest in myNBA. I could eventually try. His cost would not be much more expensive than a non matched Bagley III.
• Another probably much cheaper option could be... former Wizard Mo Wagner, currently playing with Magic.

Well I am still in 2021 so he is still with Kings and projected to become a RFA.

Back to the future II

MyNBA is on 21/03/22, the game versus Portland really opened my eyes on how to structure the team for the future and approach the off season. It was the 21st I played this season, so it took me 21 games to have a clear picture how I want to structure the team going forward.

• Backcourt
  • Cade is a mutant able to score 40 points in a game with double digits assists and rebounds. I want each possesssion to start with the ball in his hands so he will at PG and not SG.
  • Next to Cade I want a pure 3nD SG/SF profile. At the moment the one doing this the best is Josh Jackson. So could an UFA like Josh Richardson or a prospect but that is the profile I want next to Cade.

• Front court
  • No question, Saddiq Bey is an amazing perimeter shooter. He is our guy at #3.
  • At the power forward Grant is doing pretty well. And Jerami can as well play small forward. So he has value for us. I would like a hybrid PF/C able to shoot and threathen/defend the post. May depend on who we draft (saw a couple of good prospects). Or maybe we could trade for... Kevin Love. Yes some may jump to the roof but if we have the cap for 1 year he will be easy to get and fits the job description.
  • At the big man Stewart is solid. He can post up and emerged as a decent rim protector. I just need to get an extra veteran C.

• Bench key roles
  • When cade is on the bench Saben Lee is up at PG. Saben is not Cade but he is a threat to drive to the rim and has decent shooting/playmaking.
  • Behind that for the back court I need a backup ball handler in case of injuries. At the moment this role would be for Hayes... That means Hayes might be gettings his way out, I simply dont see him playing next to Cade he is too unreliable at shooting.
  • Crowder does not post big numbers but he has value as defensive forward. he can as well score a 3 points from the corner once or twiuce a game.
  • I need a solid C to rotate with Stewart. There are few good option in the projected UFA: Ibaka and Drummond... Yes Drummond. He may not get many suitors but for the right price he could be very good for us. I am looking for a veteran at C to keep mentoring Stewart.
  • Rookie Garza option should be activated. He has enough value as strecht #5 I believe it is interesting to follow his development..
  • Same for Lyles. The former Spurs is doing a decent job at PF and would be valuable depth.

We just dont want to be trolled again by a rookie freeagent, so we need to start building up credibility in this myNBA game.
